Overall Thoughts: I wrote more than I thought I did. I also wrote longer fics than I thought I did. Overall, I'm pretty pleased. I just wish I'd finished WiPs and promised fics. I totally sucked when it came to that.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? I wrote more than I thought I would. I decided to try and focus on writing longer, more complex fics this year than before. I wrote far less than I have in the past, but I think I still wrote more. Generally, I'm pretty pleased with what I wrote.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? RH Plus, The Handmaid's Tale – both for Yuletide.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? Imperfect Contrition (The Skeletons in the Closet Remix (Remix Redux). I'm surprised by this, too. This fic gave me absolute fits when I was writing it, but I am really pleased at how it turned out. I love my little AU world and hope to revisit it this year.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Yes, I focused on writing more lengthy fics. I learned that taking the time to plan is vital and that having a good beta – who isn't afraid to tell you what you're doing wrong – is critical to getting a fic that you are proud of at the end.
My best story of this year: What a hard question! I don't know what "best" means. Probably the best in terms of creation and world building is Imperfect Contrition (The Skeletons in the Closet Remix (Remix Redux).
My most popular story of this year:
That's a toss up between Worth a Thousand Words (X-Men: First Class) (LGBT Fest) and Things that Go Bump in the Night (X-men/Supernatural) (Supernatural Crossing Big Bang). The former was a surprisingly well received Hank/Bobby fic. I wasn't expecting it. The latter was my Supernatural Crossing Big Bang and I was very pleased with it. It's Gambit/Dean and I think it showcased some of my best writing this year.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
The fic that I think deserved more attention would probably be Constant Carnival (T:SCC/BtVS). I really loved the world building I did here and the plot. But, I guess I must have done something that turned people away…
Most fun story to write: The Best Bang Since the Big One (Torchwood/Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). The idea made me laugh and the fic made me laugh. Jack Harkness meets his match.
Story with the single sexiest moment: Things that Go Bump in the Night (X-men/Supernatural) (Supernatural Crossing Big Bang). If I do say so myself, this story had some very hot sex scenes.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: A Clock Ticking (2/5) (Stages of Love). This whole story, actually, but this part…. Yeah. Still, the characters are who they are.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: If the World Stops Spinning (X-men: First Class) (Heroines Fest). I'd never written either of these women, really, and writing them together with an eye to the future and what they were going to lose was heartbreaking. Also, Imperfect Contrition (The Skeletons in the Closet Remix (Remix Redux), because it forced me to really think down to the essence of the characters and figure out what I thought was truly "them" and what part of them they had been created to be.
Hardest story to write: A Pocketful of Posies… And Plague (Apocalyptothon). I really struggled to turn Psych into a serious background for a fic about the end of the world. But, I was very pleased with the way this came out.
Biggest Disappointment: Her Place in the World (X-men Movies/Iron Man Movie) (Marvel Crossing Ficathon). I think I was just overwhelmed with things at this point, but I was very disappointed in the fic I turned out for my own ficathon. Also, I learned a lot about running a ficathon and will structure things slightly differently this year.
Biggest Surprise: Worth a Thousand Words (X-Men: First Class) (LGBT Fest). I almost literally tore my hair out over this story. It has moments in it that make me *cringe* with embarrassment for the characters, but… it was by far my most well received story. It is also the one and only story I've ever had recced on

Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Forsaken. A Burn Notice fic about Fiona and her relationship to religion. It struck closer to home than I'd expected.
First Fandom of 2009: Death Note. I read this in 2007 and it pretty much ate my brain for 2008. I wrote more in this fandom than I remembered writing, but I definitely turned my attention away from it. Still, I've signed up for

Favorite Main Character of 2009: To write about? Michael Westen. To read about? Bobby Drake.
Favorite Villain of 2009: Norman Osborne. I've been enjoying the hell out of Dark Reign.
Favorite Video Game Character of 2009: N/A. I'm not fannish her.
Favorite Het Couple of 2009: Hank McCoy/Abigail Brand. Michael Westen/Fiona Glenanne. Spock/Uhara.
Favorite Femslash Couple of 2009: Abigail Brand/Jessica Drew. Fiona Glenanne (Burn Notice)/Parker (Leverage). (I've not written or read these pairings, but I'd really like to.)
Favorite Slash Couple of 2009: Gambit/Dean Winchester, by a lot. Also, Michael Westen/James Bond, Michael Westen/Sam Axe and Bobby Drake/Namor or Bobby Drake/Scott Summers. (I've not written or read the last two, but I'd sure like to!)
Fandom That You Never Expected to Get Into: RH Plus and The Handmaid's Tale, for Yuletide. But probably also general Marvel-verse.
Fandom That Made an Unexpected Comeback: Burn Notice. I had no idea that I'd written that much for the fandom this year. I'm pretty pleased with that, though. I'd like to catch up on the end of the last season… eep… and then write more!
Fandom That Inspired the Most Crack: Crossovers, always. :)
Last Fandom of 2009: Burn Notice. I've got one fic left to finish in

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?: Yes. I have three novels that are in states of partial completion. Ideally, I would like to finish them all. Also, I would like to continue writing freelance articles and expand the number of publications that I write for.

I really loved the world building I did here and the plot. But, I guess I must have done something that turned people away…
I have felt this SO MUCH this year in what I've written, ahaha. In big and small fandoms alike, I have managed to find the corners that NO ONE has any interest in reading, LOL. I feel like it's a talent. :P

You've been writing a lot of RPF this past year, though... that's a hard fandom to break into (unless it's popular bandom), I think...
*hugs*

Who knows, you know? If you're happy with what you wrote, that's what matters, right?
