Oh, and I forget, re: Jessica's home life - she says "this house is hell" to Lancelot Gobbo, though I don't know whether Radford left that line in. There is a great, great fanfiction set post-play which manages to pull off both a reconciliation between Jessica and her father and dysfunctional Portia/Shylock (partly trigged by Bassanio/Antonio):
