Number four was my favorite: Derek learned that sometimes beer and ice cream can make things bearable, even to a man or a boy who thinks that his only worth is in what he can do and not in what he is.

There's a dash of humor, using ice cream and beer as the maker of all things good =D, but the overall seriousness of the statement remains poignant and true both to Derek's feelings toward John and how John tackles the idea of being a future savior to mankind.
