Bobby watched from across the room. Rogue was laughing and talking to John. Neither of them had noticed him yet. He bit his bottom lip as he studied them. They were friends, he could accept that.
They were his friends. He trusted them.
Rogue was his girlfriend after all.
John was his best friend.
They were merely talking, heads together to keep the others in the room from hearing whatever they discussed.
Still, part of him wondered if he would still trust them if there was any chance that they could have been the lovers that they appeared to be.

Bobby found a photograph in a book under his bed. It had fallen out and he’d picked it up curiously. It was from his mother’s birthday party three years ago.
Silently, he studied the picture. His mother was smiling at Ronny, who was making a face at the camera. His dad was sitting on the left, his expression exasperated. Bobby had taken that picture.
His mother was drinking a glass of merlot. His father’s glass was empty, but Bobby could remember that more bourbon had already been ordered.
Ronny’s water glass was half-empty and Bobby grinned. His brother had always drunk water as fast as the waiter could bring it to the table. He recognized the restaurant - Bambino’s. His mother would have ordered chicken marsala. His father would have eaten lasagna. Ronny was a purist – spaghetti and meat balls.
The familiar twinge that came whenever Bobby spent too long thinking about his family hit him again. He knew them… what they liked and what they didn’t. They were his family. They were total strangers.
He put the photo back in the book and threw it under the bed again. Maybe next time he found it, it wouldn’t hurt so much.
