An Honorable Man )
I'm going through the 100+ recs I need to make and figured I'd start with a batch of X-men recs. There is one crossover, but it's so heavily X-men related that I figured I'd make it now. These are mostly old fics that I can't believe I didn't rec before now... *sheepish*

X-men Recs

[livejournal.com profile] iambickilometer wrote where the muties go to die. R. Marvel (X-Factor). After the Decimation, Julio fills his days with cheap beer and meaningless sex.

This packed a hell of a gut-punch and it's about characters I don't read much about. I really enjoyed this and the despair and honesty in it resonate with anyone ho has ever lost something that we valued.

[livejournal.com profile] smirnoffmule wrote Cost Plus. PG. X-men movieverse. A Christmas shopping trip turns eventful, and no one cares about the retail guy. Set post X2.

Outisder POV is one of my favorite things to read, especially when it's well done. As this is. Plus, this takes a look at some of thee background information we get from the second movie.

[livejournal.com profile] garrideb wrote Negative Ions. PG13. Ultimate War. Storm and Thor go head-to-head.

This was just a cool concept and very interesting to ponder.

[livejournal.com profile] xenokattz wrote The Mutant Problem. Teen. Spider-Man/X-Men movies. A week after Black Tuesday's telepathic attack on the world, Peter Parker took some pictures for a story on "the mutant problem." Ten years later, he's still taking pictures. The only difference is his definition of "the problem."

If you haven't seen this, go now. This is absolutely incredible and far reaching. It addresses real life issues through the use of a fictional medium in a way that took my breath away.

[livejournal.com profile] musamea wrote A Heap of Broken Images . Teen. X-3. Rogue. Funerals are never the end of it. Neither are cures. Five scenes on what comes after.

Rogue turns into a formindable woman, capable of living her life.

[livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil wrote Conversations with Lady Lazarus. PG. X-men Movies. Jean and Charles.

Jean Grey is a product of her environment, whether Charles and Erik wish to admit that, or not.

[livejournal.com profile] ridesandruns wrote Osmosis. T. X-men Movies. Logan and Rogue discuss danger, duty and cardigans..

Logan never stands a chance… This is cute and funny.

Can You Hear Me Now? )
[livejournal.com profile] handyhunter and I were both commenting on how Sandwichverse/Kitchenfic has made it to our list of bullet-proof narrative kinks. I also realized the ridiculous number how many fics I write that use a kitchen as a primary focal point.

So, I would like to make a Master List of all such fics and I was hoping that you wonderful people would drop me links here to fics that count as Sandwichverse/Kitchenfic.*

(*I know that Sandwichverse tends to mostly focus around Logan, but Kitchenverse is any fic that really takes place in a kitchen between any characters.)

Let's have it!
This fandom is close to my heart and with such a wealth of characters, it's hard not to be overwhelmed by the sheer possibilities! Dive in and enjoy!

This is my random reaction post, belated, of course, to X-men: The List and The Agents of Atlas two-part crossover.

SQEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE )

And on that hysterical note, I'm off to meet up with flist buddies for a beer! Cheers!
Fandom: X-Men (Utopia and Astonishing)
Characters: Hisako Ichiki, Agent Abigail Brand
Rating: PG
Length: One Shot
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Spoilers for Whedon's run on Astonishing; spoilers for the Utopia Crossover
Author: [livejournal.com profile] handyhunter
Why this must be read: I have to be fair and admit that this was written for me in a ficathon. I hope that doesn't dissuade anyone from reading, because it's really and truly fantastic. It takes characters that have to make the hard decisions every day and explores why they do it. It looks at a girl as she grows to become a woman and realizes that her dreams may have been shinier than reality, but the end result is still worth fighting for.

And it has Agent Brand in it. Enough said, really.

Author's Summary: Hisako and Brand have a conversation. Set after the X-Men move to San Francisco. Spoilers for Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men as well.

Reason to Believe
Fandom: X-Men (X-Factor)
Characters: Rictor/Shatterstar
Rating: R
Length: One Shot
Warnings: Violence, sexuality
Spoilers: Vague spoilers for X-Factor
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xlineartx
Why this must be read: Because happy endings sometimes begin in grit and sand and running away and because these two men have turned into some of the most interesting in X-cannon. Also, because the prose is beautiful, visual, and sensual.

Author's Summary: Some of the things that happened in Mexico.

To the Ends of the Earth
Ask, and you shall receive. Or at least, I will do my best.

For [livejournal.com profile] handyhunter who asked for Leverage, I have a great rec! This fic is hot off the presses, and I had the absolute pleasure of first reading it over at [livejournal.com profile] ficfinishing.

[livejournal.com profile] cuzimastripper wrote Mother Knows Best. PG-13. This fic is a Parker gen piece that ended up going Paker/Hardison, but the gen intent shines through. It's not really a fic about romantic relationships as much as it is about Parker and relationships to all the people she's ever met. It's fantastic and convoluted and sad and laugh out loud funny and just breathtaking. It's Parker and I love her. (I also love Parker/Hardison like burning, and the Hardison in this fic is just perfectly pitched, I think.) The best part of all? It's long and satisfying.

I need to read more Leverage fic. Clearly, it is awesome!

***********

For [livejournal.com profile] rodlox who asked for Burn Notice. (You also asked for Burn Notice/Supernatural, which I haven't seen, but which I now want to write. Oops.)

[livejournal.com profile] bergann wrote There's No Going Back. PG-13. This is an AU telling of the end of season 2. It's so wonderful and perfect that I wish it was how it had really happened. Michael/Victor pre-slash, it takes a look at the very broken man Victor has become and slowly, slowly, starts to repair him. Fantastic fic, one of my favorites, and I believe it has spawned sequels!

************

For [livejournal.com profile] super_pan who wanted Veronica Mars, and alas I have none, but she also said she'd accept Buffy and I happen to have a few of those. And, since she said she friended me for my crossover recs (*beams*), I should mention that I will do a post in the next day or so with a whole set of crossovers. Yay!

[livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle wrote Wishing the World into Unbeing. PG-13. Ensemble. This was written for [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon in 2008 and it's a gorgeous piece. Every bit of it is haunting and melodic and rings true. The world ends not with a bang, but with a whimper.

*************

For [livejournal.com profile] eva_roisin who wanted Xmen (comics or movies). This is one of my favorite fics ever. I think of it a lot, actually.

[livejournal.com profile] girl_wonder wrote All Fall Down (have to get up again).Unrated, but probably PG13. Ensemble. I confess up front, this was written for me. And it is the single most perfect "Fix It" fic I've read after X-3. It is alternatively chilling, gorgeous, and painful. This is what I see in my head as canon, now. I really cannot recommend it enough!
Crossposted from [livejournal.com profile] xmen_on_lj.

FIC RECS POST (08/27/09)

I have been under the weather lately, so I haven't spent as much time as normal scouting for fics. I do have some, though, that I will certainly share, along with a few odds and ends.

If you've got fics to add - please do. Just drop a note in the comment, making sure to link and provide author names and ratings!

Happy Reading!

[livejournal.com profile] iambickilometer wrote Lost Things, And People Too. X-Factor. Teen. They're not special, but they've all lost something defining, and that's what brings them together.

Not all mutants were X-men or superheroes. What happened to those who lived past the events of House of M? This is a great look at the obvious side effects of Big Marvel Events in the not so obvious lives of those affected.

[livejournal.com profile] handyhunter wrote Prove It All Night. Uncanny. PG-13. Scott's other rule of three.

Logan/Scott. PWP, hotness.

[livejournal.com profile] old_blueeyes wrote Power Play. MA: Avengers. G.

I suppose technically this fic shouldn't be here, but even though it allegedly takes place in the Avengers continuity, it features some of our favorite mutants. Implied Storm/Thor. This is a short, but cute and potent little ficlet.

[livejournal.com profile] xlineartx wrote To the Ends of the Earth. X-Factor. R. Rictor/Shatterstar. Some of the things that happened in Mexico.

This is a fantastic look at one possible relationship for these two characters. It shows them both complete with their flaws, but stronger and better with each other. Also, a fanstastic description of Rictor.

Mixed Media

Title: Her Place in the World
Author: [livejournal.com profile] wizefics
Recipient: Written for [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz for [livejournal.com profile] marvel_crossing ficathon.
Fandom: X-men Movieverse/Iron Man Movieverse
Rating: Teen
Warnings: Extrapolation of characteristics from only vague movieverse facts. (Or, I don't know Pepper that well and did my best to fake it.) Allusions to movie violence.
Summary: Pepper Potts figures out her place in the world. And it's no where that she thought it would be.
Disclaimer: I don't own either fandom and don't make money doing this.
A/N: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pdantzerl2 and [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl for both holding my hand as I wrote and then for the beta reading. All remaining errors are mine. Also, I totally fail at being timly for my own ficathon. So sorry!

Her Place in the World )
It's that time again – Fic Recs on [livejournal.com profile] xmen_on_lj! (Or, LOOKIT WHAT I FOUND!)

Again, I remind people that I can only link to the fics that I actually find and I encourage you to link *me* (and everyone else) to any comicverse fics that you've found and loved. Just drop a note in the comments, mkay??

There were several ficathons that went life over the past weeks and I found quite a few good fics at [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09, [livejournal.com profile] femslash09, and [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon. Next time, I have plans for a more writing oriented post (and less of a reader oriented one).

Now, onto the goodness!

[livejournal.com profile] iambickilometer wrote volverás para devolverlo. PGish. X-Factor. Summary: In which Shatterstar is passing through, and problems are not solved.

I admit it, I don't even read X-Factor, but I'm starting to think that maybe I should be. This fic explores more of Shatterstar's life, in light of recent developments. It's Shatterstar and Rictor and ponders what might be in their past.

************

[livejournal.com profile] karrenia_rune wrote karrenia_rune. PG-13. X-Factor. Summary: Even at the end of the world, past or future, Layla Miller still knows 'stuff".

This was written for [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon, so be warned about End of the World vibes. Even so, it’s a very interesting look at these characters as they fight an unwinnable war – and decide that maybe it's winnable after all.

************

[livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl wrote Happy Campers. PG-13. Spoilers for Giant Size Astonishing X-Men and New Warriors.. Summary: IThis was really not how Kitty had thought the camping trip was going to go.

From [livejournal.com profile] femslash09, this fic explores the relationship between Jubilee and Kitty. Often adversarial, these two women find out that they have more in common than they thought.

************

[livejournal.com profile] scoured wrote Memory, hither come. NC-17. Grant Morrison's New X-Men. Summary: Jean and Emma are trapped in a prison of their own making.

Another [livejournal.com profile] femslash09 fic, this is just plain-old snarky Jean/Emma hotness. Yum.

************

[livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce wrote 15 Entries from the Pillow Book of Alex Summers (The Bullet Point Remix). PG. Uncanny X-Men. Summary: Stuck in the Australian Outback with a ragtag X-Men team, Alex Summers takes a novel approach to preserving his sanity.

This is a fic that one of our mods wrote for [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09 and even though I did not read the arc of Uncanny where this is set, I didn't need to for this fic to beautifully capture and reveal the characters. Also, it's a really interesting look at Alex Summers – a character I don't know much about., but wish I did now.

************

[livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel wrote Logan's Infamous Canadian Sandwiches (The Young and Glorious Remix). PG-13. Astonishing X-Men and Uncanny X-Men. Summary: Hisako can’t sleep. Pixie is perky. Logan makes sandwiches.

Another mod fic from [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09, this one featuring a character that I *love* - Hisako. This fic does a fantastic job of making her so real, young, afraid, determined and just generally *brilliant.* I have a lot of love for this fic.

************

[livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl wrote I Never (The But Just This Once Remix) . PG-13. X-Men First Class. Summary: And then Warren kissed him.

The last [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09 rec from me is the second fic from [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl on the list. It's absolutely adorable and her teenage!Scott voice makes me want to squeeze him and tell him it's all going to be okay.
A Second Set of Recs from Apocalyptothon!! Yes, yes, even *more* End of the World Awesomenes!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

[livejournal.com profile] liliaeth wrote Who will defend the kittens?. PG13. Summary: "Who is the monster in a world without humans?

This was slow building, but the end was sort of got wrenching. Also, *amazing* Spike.

Castle

[livejournal.com profile] zaganthi wrote Out of Genre. R. Summary: "You know, I don't think they really want brains," Richard decided, passing the binoculars to Beckett. "Where's their motivation? That's the sort of plot-hole I'd expect from a pulp editor."

Scary. Zombies. Awesome! These are all words that describe this fic and can I just mention how amazingly *awesome* the Castle voice is here? It's perfect!

Doctor Who

[livejournal.com profile] shadowbyrd wrote As the stars wither. G. Rose/Donna. Summary: The end is inevitable but so is the beginning.

This is an alternate ending to probably my favorite episode of Season 4: Left Turn. It's brilliant and so very sad, but in a way that only happens in Doctor Who, isn't at the same time.

X-men (movie ‘verse, technically)

[livejournal.com profile] maharetr wrote Out beyond the breakers. R. Kitty/Rogue. Summary: The first time Rogue kisses her, it’s the end of the world.

This fic made me flail. Seriously flail. The story is truly scary, amazingly well told, and Kitty is my frigging hero after this. Also, [livejournal.com profile] millenniumrex, I'm looking at you – the Kitty/Rogue is brilliant and makes me want more, more, more.

I'm trying to clear some of the backlog of recs I need to make. Please remember to feedback the author if you like anything you find! It's always appreciated. :)

Also, if you happen to be new to my journal, you can find lots and lots (and lots) of recs in my memories, sorted by fandom. The only warning I make is that readers should check the author's post for warnings.
I have more to rec, but it shall have to wait. But, I'm busting a gut to rec these two fics.

Anonymous wrote The More Things Change (Blue-Eyed Boy Remix) based on one of my stories (The More Things Change, the More they Stay the Same) for [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09.

It's a wonderfully interesting story that explores characters we don't see much of in the X-men movieverse. In this case, it looks at Pietro, and his relationship with his father, with the X-men, and with himself. It's a thoughtful, insightful, and rich look at what might have been. It alludes to a history that I can imagine so well.

I have such a soft spot for Pietro, and this fic was just perfect. I love it a lot! Go and read!

And secondly, [livejournal.com profile] lilyayl wrote Anything-Can-Happen Thursday for me in [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon.

This is a Big Bang Theory fic that features Penny being awesome in the face of - wait for it - alien invasion caused by the boys! It's a 4 part epic, and before I was even a forth of the way through the first part, I knew it was going to be something special. It's amazing work, and I cannot recommend it enough.

It's funny and sad, geeky and realistic, but mostly it's Penny being epic and awesome and my frigging hero. ♥
Hey all:

I just started making these recs at [livejournal.com profile] xmen_on_lj, but I figured I'd duplicate the recs here for anyone else who might be interested. :)

Please feedback the authors if you find something you enjoy!

[livejournal.com profile] smirnoffmule wrote All Day Permanent Red. PG-13. Summary: Logan's never been one to back down from a fight, but in times of war, it's all too easy for things to just fall apart.

This fic isn't anchored in any particular comic, but it explores a lot of the issues of Logan's past and history. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest, this story explores the experience of being bisexual in one of the earlier eras of Logan's 100+ year lifespan. The pacing and the emotion of this story is pitch perfect and I was really blown away by it.

*****

iambickilometer wrote better luck next time.Unrated. Spoilers for X-Factor #45, in particular, and X-Force, X-Factor in general. Summary: Some people got a way with words. Rictor doesn't.

This fic is hosted at Dreamwidth, but it was so good that I wanted to make sure I recced it. Plus, it is the only fic I've found thus far that deals with the recent events of X-Factor. I'm not as familiar with these characters, but the story unfolds brilliantly and by the conclusion, I felt like I knew Rictor, and through him, Shatterstar. Very nice writing.

*****

[livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl wrote Six Times Bobby Drake Helped with the X-Men's Taxes.PG. Summary: It's in the title.

Another fic that is set in general comicsverse, but it's too funny not to read. I like outsider POVs and Bobby, though not an outsider, has a very particular way of looking at his teammates. Plus, it's funny!

*****

[livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel wrote Cherry Chapstick. PG-13. Spoilers for Manifest Destiny. Summary: Bobby Drake finds himself in a gay bar in the Castro.

This fic was written by one of our wonderful mods and is awesome for a variety of reasons, not the least of which – it features Bobby Drake. Yes, this is relevant to my interests, but whether or not he's your favorite, this story is cute and insightful. Also, it has a lovely finale.
Title: Things that Go Bump in the Night

Type: Slash casefile, pre-series for Supernatural
Word Count: ~33,000
Characters: Dean Winchester and Remy LeBeau
Warnings: NC17 for sexual content, language and violence

Summary: Thirty-five minutes. That's all Dean needed for this job. As long as everything went according to plan, of course.

But this is New Orleans, and nothing ever goes to plan. When Dean is interrupted mid-job by a stranger who strongly resembles a demon, the Plan is blown to hell and back. Dean eventually must join forces with the mysterious Remy LeBeau to try and undo the damage that they have done. Of course, Remy makes no secret about the fact that he has a secondary motivation that causes him to race around New Orleans to try and capture a vengeful spirit.

Author’s Notes: I owe a lot of thanks for this story. First, this story was written for [livejournal.com profile] windiain. I hope you enjoy it! Secondly, this story would never have made it this far if it weren't for the help and encouragement of [livejournal.com profile] catwomyn5 and [livejournal.com profile] pdantzler2. They have made this story much better than it was.

I must also thank [livejournal.com profile] la_conquistador, whose artwork provided me with the inspiration I needed to get over the last few hurdles.

For those who think this looks familiar, I started posting it some months back, then realized I had a much bigger story here. I've rewritten the entire fic, and suggest that you consider starting at the beginning. Thanks to those who encouraged me!
