RECATHON: Highlander
It turns out that there *can* be more than one… fic rec that is! Enjoy and don't forget to let the authors know how much you enjoy their fic. That way, maybe there can be many, many more than one!

A few notes:
1. Some of the links may lead to off LJ sites.
2. Each reader is responsible for double checking warnings on the story itself. It is not my job, nor the job of anyone else, to make sure you’re aware of the contents of the story.
3. I encourage you all to leave feedback for the authors! Feed the authors and they will continue to feed us.
4. This would not have happened if it were not for the generous help of many, many people. In particular, I would like to thank
windiain for making the lovely banners,
ithildyn for helping to advertise and to
handyhunter for coding the recs list.
5. If you encounter any mistakes, please drop me a note in the comments and I’ll do my best to fix it quickly.
6. Fics with multiple recs are indicated with an *.
7. Lastly, feel free to squee in the comments if you’re so inclined.
enviropony wrote Tavern Keeper. PG-13. Mike the Watcher, Adam Pierson, MacLeod, Joe. It's hilarious with some brilliant OC's, a great POV and Methos the cynic heckling in the background.
Teresa C wrote Yom Kippur. PG. Methos, Duncan Macleod. I'm reccing this fic because it is the first in a series (Yom Kippur, Communion, Kaddish, Pacing the Cage), and I really want to rec the whole series. This has awesome characterisation of Methos and Duncan (and later, Cassandra), and a lovely original character.

A Kindness of Ravens. Not rated, but author warning: This is adult material. Includes explicit but not graphic f/f, f/m, with implied m/m. Methos, Amanda, Cassandra, OFC. One of the most satisfying Cassandra/Horsemen/Methos resolution stories I've read. The characters we know and love are so well drawn throughout the entirety of this story. It's a real joy as the words spin out into your mind's eye, and you're there in the abbey, and you're feet feel just a tiny bit colder. We're presented with a wonderful Amanda, and Methos, and a three dimensional, well presented original character -- everyone should be so lucky as to have a friend like Jehanne.
Of Larks and Wolves. PG13. Kronos, Joan of Arc. This short fic deals with a newly immortal Joan and her teacher. Totally different take on Kronos from the usual that makes this story especially tasty.
Amonitrate wrote The Wine of Wrath. Not rated. Methos, Kronos. I love a story with a well written, three dimensional Kronos, and this fits the bill nicely. This one is from Kronos' POV set in the interlude between Comes a Horseman and Revelation 6:8.
Jen Allen wrote Consequences. Not rated, but author warning: 'This story contains scenes that are both violent and sexually graphic. Methos/OFC, Methos/OMC, Duncan/Amanda, OMC/OMC, Richie/OFC. Partly because two of my all time favourite original characters, Bryan Cutler and Jim O'Leary. They're both three-dimensional, very real, with complex histories. And they make me laugh. So in addition to being a great story overall, you get to meet characters you'd like to spend some more time with. This is the first story in a trilogy, the other two parts can be found on the authour's website.
Lithium Doll wrote All Fall Down. PG. Methos, Duncan, Amanda, Joe. One of the many things I love about this story is that it deals with the subject of Immortals getting sick. Beyond that, there's lots of great Methos snark, the whole gang eventually being involved, old enemies, and an Immortal who is the 'Typhoid Mary' of plague. It's a great story from beginning to end.
ciceqi wrote:
Lost. Nc/17. Methos/Duncan, Methos/Kronos. This fantastic fic explores the alternate world with Methos as Death, looking at his alternative sefs choices. A wonderful and fun insight into Methos' calculating side, and an underlying search for humanity.
*Oh, Darling! PG-13. Duncan/Methos. 1) Methos is drunk. The barge is in walking distance. Duncan was asleep. Fortunately for Methos, Duncan is amused. 2) A drunk and singing Methos will leave you with a smile.
No, Nay, Never. PG. Duncan/Methos. It's Christmas and there's mistletoe and a wistful Methos.
Heart Shaped Box. R - read the warnings on this one. Duncan/Methos. Angst that hurts in all the right ways.
hmpf wrote 68 Wives. Gen. Methos. Tender and sweet, and beautifully phrased, this story follows Methos's mind as he remembers his wives. wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Heat Goes to Cold. Gen. Methos, ensemble. Written in the second person present, this tale describes a day out of Methos's life and his relationship with the world around him. This story has been around for a decade now, but I still think it's one of the best character pieces of Methos I've read.
One Thousand. Mature. Duncan/Methos. This was one of the first Gathering stories I ever read. It is one of only a handful that I will return to read time and again. It's spare dialogue and narrative set the tone which is typically the author's style. Here are two men coming to the end of life as they know it. Knowing that only one of them can live at all.
Sylvan wrote Not Only horsemen come in fours. NC-17. Methos/OMC. A lovely long highlander fic, with plenty of backstory and some amazing original characters. One I want to read over and over.
cat_77 wrote Love Child. PG-13. Duncan/Methos. It's hilarious! Post The Source, the boys find out things weren't precisely as advertised. Duncan and Methos - especially Methos - are dead on characterizations.
killabeez wrote Mediterraneo. NC-17. Duncan/Methos/Amanda. Duncan is trying to withdraw, but Methos and Amanda have a plan to keep him engaged and otherwise pre-occupied. A trully awesome OT3.

We join them around 11pm in the evening and don't leave off until near sunrise after a night of random adventure that perfectly captures what I love about the banter between the two of them.
genteelrebel wrote Adam and Joe. NC-17. Methos/Joe. This story fits so seemlessly into canon that I am practically convinced it is canon. Lovely and long, funny and occasionally sad with beautifully crafted characters and a well developed plot.
voland444 wrote Game Over. PG. Duncan/Methos. A lovely short fic where Methos and Duncan disagree about to handle the discovery of immortals by mortals. Wonderfully in character and bittersweet.
