Fandom Hysterics

It seems that LJ has managed to stir up quite a bit in the way of hysterics between my leaving work and my getting online tonight. I've been keeping up with the FanLib pandamonium, but this is new and different... I think.

I have no current plans to f-lock my journal more than it already is. If LJ is cracking down on fanfiction users, then I will deal with that then. But, from what I can see... the crack down is not aimed at fandom or fanfiction, but at pedophilia.

For a more coherent explanation, I'd advise reading this post at [livejournal.com profile] fandom_lawyers.

Perhaps this is the first wave of the new policed internet era. Perhaps this is actually the work of corporate gurus at FanLib. Perhaps it won't blow over... but, deep breaths! Let's see what happens...

Yes, I feel like people are missing that aspect of it.

I think a few fannish journals got caught up in something totally different, and the likelihood of LJ deleting everybody's fanfic, including a lot of paid accounts, because ZOMG THEY HATE MONEY doesn't seem that likely.

It seems to only be happening to ones that are specifically targeted by this crazy group of fundy internet policers. The main community shut down seemed to be axed because it concentrated on incest fic. It sucks royally, but like a lot of things, the panic is probably overstated. You should be safe.
