A/N: This is a very short ficlet about Elrond's twin sons, Elrohir and Elladan when they were very little. It's quite possibly AU and almost certainly too saccarine, but it was written for a friend who needed cheering up as well as for this challenge and this is the way she likes them and I like them. So... Yep. For the June!Challenge Day Twelve!
It was stupid. El knew it was stupid. But he couldn’t help it. He felt totally alone and abandoned. Roh was nowhere to be found and it was dark.
Flopping onto his tummy, El glared at the headboard on his bed. He didn’t want to have to stay in one room while Roh slept in the other and he thought that his parents were being very mean.
He turned his head when he heard the door open and looked over to see his twin sneaking into the room.
“You’re not supposed to be here, Roh.” El whispered. “Ada said we had to sleep in our own beds since we broke the pillows.”
“I know.” Roh whispered back, clutching something in his hands. “But I didn’t want you to be scared.”
“I’m not scared,” El challenged, but when Roh gave him a knowing look, he relented. “Just a little.”
“Me, too.” Roh nodded. “So I brought you this.” His arms jutted out and he was holding a much beloved stuffed bear.
“But you’ll get bad dreams without him.” El protested, sitting up.
“Nu uh,” Roh shook his head. “I won’t if you…” he stopped, catching his bottom lip between his teeth. “I won’t if you let me sleep with yours.”
Understanding dawned in El’s eyes and he pushed one hand under the covers and came out with an equally beloved stuffed bear of his own. “Good idea!”
Moving in quickly to give his twin a hug, Roh traded bears and turned to go back towards the door. “This way, if you get scared, you have my bear and you know that you’re not alone.”
“And you have mine,” El nodded, well pleased with the solution to this problem. The door closed behind Roh with a soft click and El lay back down, his arms wrapped protectively around the stuffed toy. Snuggling it against his face, he caught a scent that was Roh’s and he breathed deeply. Comforted, he closed his eyes and relaxed.
He was pretty sure he’d be able to sleep now.
