Hi world!

I've been active in fandom since 2001(ish), but I took an extended (decadeish long) break and am now trying to find the fun again! Please feel free to friend me and say hi!

My fics are here: https://archiveofourown.org/users/bewize

I am slowly moving old fics to AO3, but it's very slow.

The fandom of my heart is X-Men, but I am also a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I dabble in lots of others.

Other things you should know - I don't post often, but I'm trying. I f-lock posts about my family and/or job. I basically just want to live my best life without extra drama, but I do have a tendency to process trauma through dark humor. You've been warned. ;)

It has gotten difficult to format posts here on LJ.  XD

Here are links to AO3 for my new drabbles.  It's only been *mumble* years.

So, here are the chapter links for the new drabbles.

Challenge #2

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Fannish Goals

Keep writing. Finish my Small Fandom Big Bang.

Keep writing stuff that is me having fun. No stress writing.

Other Goals

Finish C25K. Keep running. Maybe try and run a 10K. Or more? Don't get ahead of yourself.

Keep working on the Flylady system and keep working on getting my house in order.

Take two vacations with family and maybe a girl's weekend/solo trip? Something.

Red Notice

Nov. 19th, 2021 08:45 pm
Someone tell me where the good slash is. Please let it exist.

And the OT3 fic?
I'm very excited about this exchange! It looks so much fun. Please do not stress over writing for me. I'm going to be excited by anything you are excited about!

Generally, I like most types of fics - character studies, missing scenes, behind the scenes, what really happened, what happened before, what happened after, AUs, crossovers. I'm easy. :D

My general DNWs: Damsels in Distress (Dudes in Distress), Gore, Gratuitous violence (violence for plot is totally ok), rape (but dub con is ok, as long as there is some evidence of consent), torture.

Specific Requests:

1. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949): Brom Bones, Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane, Katrina van Tassel - I am open to nearly anything here. This would be super fun as an AU, but I would love to see just *more* of what happened. My one request is please don't make Katrina simpering and daft. Case fic would also be awesome. What happened to Ichabod? What happened to Brom? What happened to Katerina? Just who *was* the Headless Horseman and how did it come to be?

2. Luca (2021): Alberto Scorfano, Massimo Marcovaldo - I am *dying* to see their relationship develop here. Please don't give them a sexual relationship at all. But, I would love to see a father and son dynamic really open up here. It was so broadly hinted at in the movie and poor Alberto has so much damage from his own father. I'd be open to hearing backstory for both characters, too. All other characters are also welcome, too, but I'm curious what happens after Luca and Guilia go to school. What's life like when it's just Massimo and Alberto? (Also, protective Massimo was amazing and Alberto really needs some of that in his life.)

3. Sleeping Beauty (1959) - Fauna, Flora, Merryweather, Maleficent - Maleficent scared me to death as a child and she remains my favorite Disney villain. I would *love* to see world building around the fairies and their backstory. I'd love to see history, or fairy politics, or the politics of being a "fairy godmother." Anything is going to be good here.

4. Cinderella (1950)- Worldbuilding Cinderella's Parents - What on earth led to the situation where Cinderella's Father choose Lady Tremaine? Or tell me their love story? Why does Cinderella have a Fairy Godmother? So many questions about what happened before the movie!

5. Raya and the Last Dragon (2021): Raya, Namaari: Binturi? Dep La? Both? Neither? More? Super open to hearing how these women navigate the world after the movie's end. I'm open to any type of relationship here, but both of these women were competent and that's something I love seeing! Do they rebuild Kumandra or do they never really see eye to eye? Go for it!

I've begun transferring everything over to Ao3.  I'm super super late to the party.

Still no luck finding much active in the way of my current fandoms.  Still having fun on Tumblr, though, and on A03.

I have been amazed by the number of things I've written and forgotten.  Some good — some not.  But it's okay.  LOL!

I'm going to make some notes of things I started here and never finished.

100 Drabbles:  Iceman (X-men).  I've got over 40 of them.  Good excuse to rewatch the films.

I have stumbled back to LJ in the hopes of finding fandom joy again.  It's been a long time since I've written much of anything, and I haven't even read much either.

Where does fandom hang out right now?  I know about AO3, but where do the discussions and the fun and the friendships happen?  Someone help me... LOL!

I'm not very active in fandom at the moment, but feel free to search my journal for samples of what I like and what I write. Also, if you search under the yuletide tag, you'll see my past letters.

General Likes and Dislikes:

Likes: Plot, witty dialogue, action scenes, sex scenes that are plausible, laughter, angst, things that make me cry, moral grays, loyal friends, hard choices, happy endings, quiet moments, and surprise twists.

Dislikes: Incest, underage sex, irresponsible kink, excessive violence, gore, stereotypes that go unexplored, stories that the author felt trapped into writing!

Bottom line - if you write it for me in one of these fandoms, I'm going to like it. So relax. Have fun. And, trust me, I'm already excited!

Request 1
Fandom:Hotel Transylvania (Movies)
Mavis Dracula Jonathan (Hotel Transylvania) Dracula (Hotel Transylvania) Martha Dracula

I adored these films. I would love to see more about the meaning of family in this universe. Feel free to include as many of the other monsters and families as you'd like!

Request 2
Fandom:Despicable Me (Movies)
Lucy Wilde Felonius Gru

I would love to see this fabulous couple handle some of the more typical moments of raising children. But, anything would be awesome! I'd love to see adventures, relationship growth, the Minions, their pasts coming back to haunt them... whatever works!

Request 3 by bewize
Fandom:The Incredibles (2004)
Violet Parr Dash Parr Jack-Jack Parr

I would really love to see the kids have adventures of their own - either as kids, or as adults, or both!
So, I participated in Yuletide this year. It was my sole fandom endeavor. That is just SO SAD.

I would really like to get involved with fandom again, though. It's a tremendous source of joy that I am missing in my life.

So, because it seems I need motivation - what ficathons/writing things are people participating in that I can still timely join?

Thanks!

PS - Yuletide write up coming soon. :)
I am so pleased with the story, by the horns, here that lastwingedthing wrote for me! It is a wonderful first time story with Mirrim and Menolly (Dragonriders of PERN) and it doesn't brush over the complications of first times! Whee!

It's also very set in the world of PERN and it hints at some of the complications that their relationship could face, which I also love.

Thank you for everything! This is just such a wonderful treat. :)

******************

As for my story, the first I've written in almost a year, I wrote Stockholm, which is a Disney Princess (all Sleeping Beauty, though) Aurora/Maleficient story. I won't lie... it's pretty fucked up.

But, I enjoyed writing it. And I enjoyed writing again.

Cheers!
This is holder space for right now...
I got my assignment for femslashex.

I am wildly excited.

Like whoa. *DANCE OF JOY*
This is a holderspace for my letter. :)

ETA: General Thoughts

I love plot, witty dialog, clever characters. I'm happy with fluff, angst, porn, or any other variation. I have a huge fic!kink for noir, though, if you wanna take any of this in that direction. I like exploration of character flaws. I also like slice of life - a lot!

I adore all of these characters. I love all of these worlds. So, you are welcome to go in any direction you'd like, honestly.

Dislikes: I don't deal well with non-con or dub-con (unless you focus on the fall out as realistically as possible). I don't like torture (not that I think that's an issue). I don't like character bashing, although I don't mind snark or honest observations.

I'm very, very excited! Thank you, writer, for whatever you do for me. I'm gleeful!

Yuletide

Sep. 13th, 2013 11:03 am
Yep, The White Queen. Oh yes.

Holy moly and lots of other things.

Women characters everywhere being AMAZING.
I'm super stoked for fandom nominations. I'm debating fandoms, but I think that once again I will stick with short. :)

First, Cargo!

Someone reminded me of this and I really want to see fic from this world!

*********

Next, Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

Why yes, there IS a post apocolayptic theme here...

**********

I will be asking for the webcomic Girls with Slingshots again, because I will ask for that until someone writes it for me. *hearts*

**********

I'm not sure what else I will ask for... I'm still pondering that 4th nomination. I am, however, glad that the two noms rule is gone. Because, while I saw someone else asked for Cargo, I don't see anyone else asking for either of these others... :(

**********
I have asked for four pretty awesome fandoms! I know you must agree, because you signed up to write at least one of them. :)

I'm not very active in fandom at the moment, but feel free to search my journal for samples of what I like and what I write. Also, if you search under the yuletide tag, you'll see my past letters.

Bottom line - if you write it for me in one of these fandoms, I'm going to like it. So relax. Have fun. And, trust me, I'm already excited!

Things I like, in general )

Things I dislike )
I've been wracking my brain trying to think of what to write for this challenge and my love of lists is coming to my rescue for now. And, I also thought, "start small" and had the idea to do a list of 10 things that I like that I suspect people take for granted. Also, as an FYI, these are things that have the effect of making me feel better when I'm down, make me feel like you know me and care about me, and also, just have a wonderful rejuvenating factor to them. They energize me when I need to keep going and may not know exactly where I'm going to find the strength to keep going.

1. Coffee. Yes, this is cheating, what with the caffeine and all, but I love coffee. I love the way it smells. I love the way it tastes. I love the way it makes me feel - like the whole world can pause just long enough for me to drink it and take away a moment of peace and me time.

I like my coffee black. I don't use sugar, only splenda, if I do decide to sweeten it. Sometimes, I will add cream. I like real cream. I also like whipped cream, if it's a special occasion. If it's cold, I'll take my coffee hot. If it's hot, I'll take my coffee cold.

I'll drink it Irish, too. And with desert, and with breakfast, and at 2 in the afternoon. I'd drink it at night, but everyone fusses at me, so I've switched to decaf for those evening when I just can't stand it.

2. Movies. I love going to the movies, because they are engaging, distracting, and provide an often-times much needed break from the insanity of real life. I don't have much time for movies, but it's a shame. If you can make me make time, do it!

I like going to the theater. I like the big screen. I prefer movies that I pay that much for to have awesome special effects. I like action and adventure. I like super heroes. I love fantasy and magic.

I don't like love stories that promise happy endings that don't exist. I don't like horror films that are gory. I do like ghost stories.

I like movie soundtracks and epic is always better. I love popcorn. If we're at home, I adore pickles and popcorn. (Blame my mother.)

3. Patios. I love to sit on patios. I like them in restaurants a lot, but I love them in people's houses, too. I like being outside and still being comfortable. I like drinks (of any sort) on patios.

I don't like smokers, but I'll tolerate them. I love bonfires. I like grilling out. I like roasting marshmallows, as long as someone else will eat them. Hot dogs on the grill are my favorite food. Shut up.

Music is good. Dancing with me on a patio is better. Curl up with me on a swing and I'll be happy and content for hours. Snuggle with me if I'm cold. Let me lean on you even if its warm. I'll do my best not to sweat on you. ;)

4. Baths. Bubbles are good. Lush bombs are better. Reading in the bathtub is an awesome thing. Hot water, lots of it, that I can run over my toes and feet anytime the tub needs a warm up makes me happy. So do hot tubs.

Candles, music, a glass of wine - these will make the bath experience even better, but at the heart of it, I need a clean tub and warm water. Fuzzy towels, robes, etc. for when I get out are also good. :)

5. Hugs and pets. I will stay still for as long as I physically can if you pet me. I love hugs. I love having my hair played with. Now, there is a big caveat here - if I don't know you, or just met you, don't be overly handsy. That's just uncouth. But if you're my person, and you know you're my person, hug me, damn it.

6. Music. I love music, especially live. I will see anything live (although, I'm not really that fond of jazz... but I can deal with it). I like to dance, especially if I've had a drink. I like the symphony and the opera and the ballet. I like rock and roll. I like hip hop and rap. I like pop.

Sing to me, and I will die of giggles but at the same time, love you forever.

Note - I don't do karaoke. ;)

7. Baseball. I like going to the games. I like going to ANY games. I like t-ball and I like the pros. I like small town leagues. I like baseball movies and baseball stories and the history of the US as told through baseball.

I will cheer the Braves, boo the Yankees, and respect the hell out of anyone who isn't a fair weather fan.

8. Surprises. I don't mean big "Hey, guess what, I'm moving!" kinds of surprises. I mean little things like, "I saw this and thought of you" and "I think you'd like this place I'm taking you" and "This seemed like you."

Write me stories. Send me pictures. Do something for me and I will be excited.

9. Show me something unexpected. An old man playing his trumpet in the town square. The magic of train whistles in the middle of the night. The wonder of fairy lights twinkling in the gloom. The sound of a baby's laugh, the purr of a cat, the lightening zap of an old couple holding hands. Show me pretty gardens. Show me swing sets hidden in the middle of the urban jungle. Graffitti is glorious, modern art is confusing, and amazement in the mundane is my favorite thing in the world.

10. Just... listen when I want to talk. Don't push me when I don't. Be my friend and mean it when you say you love me.
If anyone has a few minutes and a few dollars to spare, I'm walking on Saturday in support of my friend Os, who was diagnosed with ALS in August of 2011.

It's a horrible disease and I will spare the details while still asking for your help to fight it.

Thanks.

Every bit helps: Donate here.

Brand hung up her communicator with a sigh and stared down at the piles of paperwork on the desk in front of her in a mixture of mild annoyance and exhausted despair. Flicking her eyes to the left, she saw the time marching steadily towards midnight and gritted her teeth in response. There were days when then there just wasn’t enough time.

Hell, there were no days when there was enough time.

A knock at the door interrupted her reach for the top piece of paper and she turned as the metal slid open. Only two people would have the audacity to enter her office without her permission and her assistant was off duty. Besides, she’d noted the shuttle docking an hour before, unexpected, cleared past security without problem, and narrowed the list of possible arrivals to a select few.

One of them was staring in at her now and she leaned back in her chair. A familiar blue face and feline grin greeted her and she kept face expressionless. “I thought you were up to your ears in catastrophes.”

“I am,” Hank replied.

“I thought you were too busy to keep our date,” Brand arched an eyebrow.

“No, my dear. I said I was too busy to be timely with our date.” Hank stepped into the room, hands holding a peace offering.

Standing, Brand’s eyes locked on the box. “Is that Mario’s?”

“Cheese, pepperoni, mushroom, olives…” Hank answered, temptingly. He lifted his other hand. “And a six pack of beer that I liberated from Logan.”

“You’re forgiven for being late.” Brand circled her desk arms held out. As soon as she was close enough, she took the pizza box and turned on her heel, ignoring the offered hug. She’d made it two steps before she hid her grin, ducking her face, as he snatched her back against him.

“Then just wait to see what I have for dessert,” he promised, teasingly. Relaxing for a moment, Brand leaned against him, the warmth of him seeping through her uniform and easing tense muscles. Turning, she lifted her face to kiss him.

“I can’t wait.”
I asked for challenges and I got some. Some are fun and kooky. Some are serious and pointed. Some are technically possible, but we shall see...

* I would like you to say "no" at least once a month to things that you normally agree to out of guilt or sense of responsibility. I want you to write each month about your "no" and how the world kept turning after all. Just say no!!!!

* Visit Huntsville sometime! Maybe when R will be here - June maybe?

* I did the 3 day walk for susan g komen for my resolution last year!

* lol I think you already know what I'm going to challenge you with. I challenge you to try the Paleo/Primal Blueprint for a month.

* Challenge Accepted. We'll talk later

* I challenge you to hope...

* I challenge you to be optimistic and to kick ass while doing it! Don't take shit because you think you should... guilt gets you nowhere, hon! I, better than most, know how hard it is to stand up and give something stressful a great big "F-U"!

* I agree with the post directly above. Let go of guilt and be a little selfish. Go after what YOU want and don't let other people distract you or talk you out of it ;) Life's too

* Do something you've been dreaming of and never took the time money or energy to accomplish. And when you finish... Do a little dance to celebrate!!
Yesterday at 8:14am • Like • 2

* Run to the top of Stone Mountain. Is that a thing people can do? I get the impression that hiking it isn't that much of a challenge. I could be wrong, though!

* Don't speak or make any vocal sounds for an entire weekend--that means Friday afternoon through Sunday!

In terms of a writing challenge I would be interested to see you take on a modernization of the older stories in literature (Frankenstein, for example) being framed as a series of letters. There are so many varied forms of communication these days, even among the entirely-text forms of communicating, and only a few pieces of media have made use of the modern forms as a narrative framing device.

* Go an entire day where all the food you eat contains bananas (or another fruit if you don't like/eat bananas). :).

* Go six months without soda or any carbonated energy drinks.

If anyone wants to add to the challenge, it's open for a while longer. :)
