Hi! I'm guest reccing this month at spnroundtable and I have spent the last few days organizing the fics I want to rec. I'm not done yet, but I figured I'd get started with some gen recs from eras past. The earliest fics are pre-series and the last one is something that should still happen (imo). (Also, since it's October, the first one is a Halloween fic, too!)

eloise_bright wrote Whipping Boy. PG13. Pastor Jim considers John Winchesters parenting methods – and hopes there is a method. -This is not a nice look at John Winchester, but it's probably an accurate one.

jainadurron wrote Salt of the Earth. PG. Dean and Sam pursue a demon in Utah. - This is set after season 2 and perfectly catches the mood of that time period, before the boys became pawns in a much bigger war and when they just cared about keeping each other safe.

spastic_visions wrote Long Time Coming. PG. For a long time, all you can see is white. - Henrickson after the explosion, if he hadn't died. This is a great fic and one that I keep hoping will become canon. The second person works perfectly, because Henrickson is coaching himself.

Post Season 4: Injured and on the run, Dean and Sam encounter a town that is nothing like anything they've ever encountered. - This is a very unusual look at the boys and the message in it was soothing and hopeful. I enjoyed this a great deal, despite the fact that it was more of a healing than an ass kicking fic. The boys could use some more healing.

Conversational Winchester for Trolls by eloise_bright (PG-13; Gen; 1,850 words)
Pre-series. Crack!fic, but in the best possible connotation. What do the Winchester men mean when they speak? The troll under the bridge figures it out.


He Never Said Why by meredevachon (PG; ~ 550 words)
Bobby fic. Written early in the show, this stands the test of time and provides a possible glimpsed explanation for why Bobby is such a devoted friend.


On Warm Summer Nights by lyra_wing (PG; ~ 4,000 words)
Mary-centric fic. This one is lush and rich and beautiful. It gave me goosebumps the first time I read it and still gives me goosebumps to this day when I reread it. To say more would spoil it.


We Say Grace, We Say Ma'am by kimonkey7 (PG; ~ 3,200 words)
Teen-chesters. It’s hard to be idealistic when you’re 19 years old. Even harder when you live in a trailer park. Almost impossible when your dad is John Winchester. But...

Well, I had vague thoughts that I'd read all the stories and then make one recs post with all my favorites in them. Then, I started reading... and there are too many good stories for me to fit them all into one post! So, here goes part one of a two part series of recs. :)

Burn Notice

penmage wrote What You're Thinking While the World is Ending. PG-13. First things first, this was written for me, so I am naturally biased. But, that said, this would be high high on my list regardless. It is *awesome*! The POV is second person, which I can't write to save my life, but it works so fantastically for this piece that it's like watching an episode of the show. It's absolutely incredible, and I'm convinced you'll love it as much as I did if you read it.

lyl_devil wrote Life After. R. I can't even put into words how fantastic this fic is. It's pitch perfect for all the characters, has a riveting plot, a fantastic villian, and Michael is a ruthless and amazing as he really is. Plus, Fiona. Oh, man. Fiona! Gah. That's all I can say about her without devolving into a fangirl. A quick summary: With the government in ruins, Michael's skills are in demand again, despite the burn notice.


Psych

storydivagirl wrote The Four Stages of the Psych Zombie Attack. PG. This fic has it all. It has Shawn. And Gus. And Henry! Not to mention zombies and squabbles and laugh out loud humor. It's a true gem of a fic in a fandom without enough fic to begin with!

gryvon wrote The Four Stages of the Psych Zombie Attack. R. I am not generally a fan of Shawn/Lassiter fics. This one has gone a long way to making me reconsider. The portrayal of Lassiter in this fic, through Shawn's eyes, made me look at the detective again myself. It's sweet and bittersweet, and very nicely done.


Supernatural/X-men

nekare wrote Migratory Birds. PG-13. Epic. That's the only way I can think to describe this fic. It picks up at the end of X-3, is basically an AU for all of Supernatural, and is so good it hurts. I am utterly blown away by the detail and world crafting, the ease and skill applied to this crossover, and the intensity and depth of the plot. In a word, this fic is fantastic. Told from the Winchesters' POV, it's a tale of brothers who end up on opposites sides in the mutant v. human war, and the realization that sometimes family, however it's defined, matters more than anything else. Plus, the other characters that appear, X-men and Supernatural both, are just superbly written.


X-men

danniisupernova wrote Anumarana. PG-13. Beautiful and bleak. This isn't a request that I asked for, but it's similar to one that I asked for. What happens if Magneto wins? Haunting and heartbreaking. Told from Pyro's POV, it's his deconstruction from god to insect again.


resolute wrote World's End, In Ice. PG. This was a seriously creepy fic, in a very understated way that will crawl through your thoughts when you're trying to sleep. It's resolute, so you already know it's quality story-telling, but I was very impressed by the story she didn't tell here, as well.
