Miami didn’t offer much to Michael Westen – only bad memories, skimpy outfits that made hiding weapons difficult (though Fiona always managed) and overpriced drinks. Still, he couldn't help but admire the sunset from where he stood on the ridiculous little balcony that jutted out from his apartment. For one blissful moment, everything was quiet except for the distant cry of gulls.

Fiona stood next to him, looping one around his waist and resting her head on his shoulder. They waited side-by-side, silently, and watched as the sun lit the sky on fire; reds, oranges, and pinks, bleeding together into darkness.

"Move, Fi." Michael's jaw clenched so hard that he gave himself a headache. "I can't leave kids at the mercy of a father like that."

"You always do this, Michael. Some woman tells you a sob story and you rush to play white knight."

Michael shoved Fiona, only slightly surprised to end up on the floor with her straddling him. The surprise came when she leaned down and wrapped her arms around him.

"You can't save everyone, Michael. You can't even save yourself."

Michael closed his eyes to keep her from seeing his tears.

Her arms slipped around him from behind and Michael stiffened in surprise. Turning, he forced a smile. "Fiona, now is hardly the best time."

"Michael, relax."

"After the mission." Michael insisted, pulling away. He didn't want her to feel him trembling.

Fiona let him go, watching him keenly. "Michael, we're fine."

"You were hurt. You're bleeding, still."

"Aye, a scratch." Fiona laughed. "But we live to fight another day. Isn't that enough?"

For the first time, Michael wondered if it was. Gently, he caught her and pulled him back into him. He sighed softly as he held her. "Be careful."
