I'm not very active in fandom at the moment, but feel free to search my journal for samples of what I like and what I write. Also, if you search under the yuletide tag, you'll see my past letters.

General Likes and Dislikes:

Likes: Plot, witty dialogue, action scenes, sex scenes that are plausible, laughter, angst, things that make me cry, moral grays, loyal friends, hard choices, happy endings, quiet moments, and surprise twists.

Dislikes: Incest, underage sex, irresponsible kink, excessive violence, gore, stereotypes that go unexplored, stories that the author felt trapped into writing!

Bottom line - if you write it for me in one of these fandoms, I'm going to like it. So relax. Have fun. And, trust me, I'm already excited!

Yuletide

Yep, The White Queen. Oh yes.

Holy moly and lots of other things.

Women characters everywhere being AMAZING.
I'm super stoked for fandom nominations. I'm debating fandoms, but I think that once again I will stick with short. :)

First, Cargo!

Someone reminded me of this and I really want to see fic from this world!

*********

Next, Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

Why yes, there IS a post apocolayptic theme here...

**********

I will be asking for the webcomic Girls with Slingshots again, because I will ask for that until someone writes it for me. *hearts*

**********

I'm not sure what else I will ask for... I'm still pondering that 4th nomination. I am, however, glad that the two noms rule is gone. Because, while I saw someone else asked for Cargo, I don't see anyone else asking for either of these others... :(

**********
I have asked for four pretty awesome fandoms! I know you must agree, because you signed up to write at least one of them. :)

I posted Yuletide!

It's been a year since I've written anything and I could tell, but I enjoyed it. I hope my recipient enjoys it.

It feels good to write something again. I should get back in the habit. :)
I love my assignment! I've already started and this is the first thing I've written in AGES.
I love Yuletide. I love Yuletide so much, I'm coming out of fannish-hibernation from what I hope will be known as the "Drought of 2011" and not the status quo for the future. (Eep!)

Anyway, some general likes and dislikes:

Things I like, in general )

Things I dislike )

My requests, but allow me to expand a bit: Girls With Slingshots (Webcomic), Newsflesh Trilogy - Mira Grant, Raine Benares Series - Lisa Shearin, MegaMind (2010) )
I managed (somehow) to finish the Yuletide fic I was assigned. The recipient hasn't responded yet, but I'm pretty happy with it and that's good. :)

I also finished the gift fic I was working on and that's gone over well. ♥

Yesterday, I ended up being off most of the day. I finished up a lot of things in the morning, then played Santa for a bit in the afternoon, then went to Pyng Ho for our annual Christmas Eve Chinese Food Extravaganza! I think this is year like... 5 or 6. The family that owns it is awesome and we always end up drinking way past closed, so luckiy, I wasn't driving home.

Then, as an extra bonus, there's a 'blizzard' hitting the southern US, so I can't even drive to AL to visit family. Instead, I'm stuck in the ATL (which I don't really mind at all). This morning was about Santa Clause for M, and it was one of the most fun things I've done in a long time.

We stayed up until late late late last night assembling things that Santa brought - like the red wagon that I arranged a month ago and which is the big hit of the day, I think. He loves it. He's napped in it, put all his other toys in it, and then ate lunch in it. LOL. Victory!

I got gift cards to Starbucks and iTunes and a bunch of gym stuff, which I'm thrilled about. I got a big bag to carry everything in and several pairs of pants and running shirts and jackets and such. S got me a titanium necklace, which is supposed to work wonders, and which I am wearing. So far... all I feel is tired.

YULETIDE!

OMG!

YULETIDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I must have been very good this year.

The Electro Menace. Ummm. *freaks out* SOMEONE WROTE ME SPIDER-MAN AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS FIC! *gleegasms* It's got Bobby and Peter and Angelica all being friends and being awesome and fighting crime and yay!

Where the Wind Don't Blow and the Good Girls Die. This is a fic set to the video of The Killers - A Dustland Fairytale and it is so much better than anything I could have ever hoped for. It's sad and bittersweet and touching and it reached inside and grabbed something vital and twisted. But, damn, if it wasn't perfect.

Four Ways Brandon Flowers Never Met Charlize Theron (With Ninjas). So, Brandon Flowers has a thing with Ninjas. And it is awesome. Seriously, the only thing wrong with this fic is that it wasn't written for Yuletide as a whole, because it is AMAZING.

I am seriously thinking of going to nap for a bit. There will be more festivities later, I'm sure, but I'm tired and happy and feeling pretty awesome right now. And then, when I wake up, YULETIDE ARCHIVES!!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day, because I sure am. ♥

ETA: OH yeah! The Recathon is complete, with everything being a success. I'll be sure to post links later for the curious. Thanks to everyone for their help! I'll put up something a bit more official about that, too. ♥
Dearest Yuletide Writer:

I love you. You can do no wrong. So relax and have fun. :D

I've picked 3/4 very short and accessible fandoms, so please - if you've not seen them, enjoy watching them! And please know that I really do not mind which fic you write for me. I believe that all 4 need to exist in the world and any one of them would make me SO happy.

Things I like, in general )

Things I dislike )

My requests were pretty broad, but allow me to expand a bit:

Crossfire (Music Video), A Dustland Fairytale (Music Video), Despicable Me (2010), Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (TV) )
I have a keen interest in volunteering to write for lots of music video fandoms this year, and in furtherance of that interest - and also out of extreme curiosity - I was hoping that anyone who sees a music video fandom may be willing to point it out to me.

I'm going to drop youtube links in the comments here to the vids that I'm asking for. If they're all gathered in one place, I stand a better chance of finding them! Any/all genres welcome!

Note: Use your own discretion of what is and isn't a "music video." I am not that specific! Thanks!

Yuletide!

My nominations for this year are - drum roll please -

Crossfire (music video)

Despicable Me

A Dustland Fairytale (music video)

Kick Ass (movie)

Shakespeare - Merchant of Venice

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (tv)

As for my own fic thing - The Holiday Recathon fandom submissions post closes tomorrow. There are over 50 fandoms nominated already.

Are your favorites on the list???

Voting will start once I close the list and make up some polls. I'm interested to see what wins this year and looking forward to a lot of awesome fic.
As the days turn colder (literally overnight, here in Georgia), I can't help but start thinking about the upcoming seasonal fandom things.

In particular, I think of Yuletide and the Holiday Recathon!

So, first things first - is there any interest in the Recathon this year? It seems to go over well, and I have a fantastic time reading all the fics. What do you guys think?

Then, Yuletide! I've decided to approach Yuletide differently this year. I'm going to offer fic for any movie that I've seen/own/can borrow. But my requests are going to be all over this year.

I will definitely have requests for Despicable Me. And I'm pretty sure that I'm going to ask for fics from music videos - Brandon Flowers' Crossfade, The Killers's Dustland Fairytale and maybe a few others. Possibly Undercovers.

What are you guys thinking for Yuletide? It's time to get my fandoms up to date!
Better late than never, right?

Anyway, for Yuletide, I received a wonderful fic from Packmentality called Stray. It was brilliant and recced several times, which it deserved. If you haven't read it yet, go and do it at once. Especially if you're looking for a wonderful introduction into the Being Human fandom.

I can't find an LJ for Packmentality, but if anyone knows who s/he is, please tell me!

I wrote three fics this Yuletide.

My main fic was Patterns of Laughter for [livejournal.com profile] daegaer. It was an RH Plus fic that explored pre-series how Kiyoi and Michitaka came to their arrangement. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out, although I angsted over it terribly. Also, I owe a tremendous amount of thanks to my beta readers - [livejournal.com profile] isilweth, [livejournal.com profile] sabaceanbabe and [livejournal.com profile] rodlox - for making this a much better story than it was. I'm amazed at how three different readers found three different sets of mistakes. *lol*

I wrote two treats. The first was For I Know Not What I Do for [livejournal.com profile] ineptshieldmaid. This was The Handmaid's Tale and I was very pleased at how it turned out.

Lastly, I wrote a Burn Notice treat. The Little Things. I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] ambyr, who wanted fics about Nate and I couldn't resist. I'm very happy with how this came out, because to me it's all about how family isn't perfect and hurts each other, but tries really hard anyway.
I decided to read the middle column of fandoms first. These recs come from those fandoms. Enjoy!

Ghostbusters

Hidden Deep Inside. This is a great plotty story that shows some of the consequences of the first movie, while not losing it's very Ghostbustery feel.

Graceland – Paul Simon

How We Begin to Remember. Guh. If I was a skeptic about song fandoms before, I'm not now. This is a lush, vivid, wonderful story inspired by the song and from the POV of the 9 year old. Fantastic work.

Hook

No Need for Fairies. Peter Pan, all grown up and taking responsibility for the things he's done. This was fantastic and Hook was the perfect counterpoint.

Hott Fuzz

After the Explosions. A play by play of what came next, with wonderful characterizations and perfect pacing. Also, this doesn't shy away from the harder parts of dealing with the aftermath of the movie.

DIY For Beginners. Danny can't let Nicholas leave Sandeford because he can't find a lover. So, he decides to switch sexual orientations. Laugh out loud funny, sweet, and endearing.

Yippee Ki Yay, Mother Hubbard. Partners – when they're needed and when they're not. And Nicholas has rubbish taste in films.

Model Village. A truly scary little story about what almost was.

Iron Giant

We Live On In Legend. An epilogue, but so true to the original that it took my breath away (and made me cry a bit).

Iron Man

Chaos Magic. This is Tony Stark, right before Dark Reign, doing what he does best.

The Last Unicorn

Somewhere Between Stories. A beautiful look at Molly and Schmendrick after the story ends (and before another begins!).

Lilo and Stitch

All Your Heart Melodies. Lilo grows up.

The Lion King

All the Lonely Moments. Simba ran away. Others stayed behind and learned how to fight.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

A Little Less Conversation. This was fantastically fun and awesomely spy-full. I loved this!

The Oregon Trail

And Then We Shot the Ox. Serioulsy, one of the best stories of Yuletide thus far. All my love for this one.

Rebekah: The Adventures of a Young Woman on the Oregon Trail. Even though they are all original characters, I was consumed with their journey. Lovely writing.
Dear Yuletide Author:

Hi. Nice to meet you. Allow me to offer pre-getting started adoration. *adores*

Okay, now that I've given the impression of being calm, allow me to flail!!! I LOVE YULETIDE AND I LOVE YOU FOR WRITING FOR ME!!!

Hee. Now, onto my letter. I hope that you don't feel tied to anything specific from my requests. I would be equally excited for any of these fics to exist. But, allow me to expound on a few general likes and dislikes.

Likes: Moonlight walks on the beach )

Dislikes: Bathroom stalls that are out of toilet paper. )

Now, onto the fandoms! Spider-Woman, Jonny Quest, Being Human, Leverage )

Mostly, Dear Author, please enjoy yourself. I really mean that. Yuletide – to me – should be all about good times. I hope you find something you want to write about in my requests here.

THANK YOU!!!!
I got the most awesome story! Stray. It's in the Being Human fandom (a vampire, ghost and werewolf are roommates) and it's about the magic of finding a family even when you have none. It's also about friendship and accepting yourself and others around you.

And a cat!

OMG, you guys, this story is so wonderful I don't even know how to describe it. It has made me very very happy and was so worth tackling the AO3 server into submission (and a lot more than that, besides!)

I'm probably going to be in teh car for a while now, so no more recs until tonight. But maybe then the servers will let me read stuff... I can hope, right?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I have no idea how one goes awasselling, but it sounds like fun to me. I could use more fun, I think. Speaking of fun, two days left until the end of the Recathon and three days until Yuletide! Both of these events fill me with fannish glee. I'm excited about reading and plan to spend a large part of the last of the year doing just that.

Yuletide:

* My story is written and the betas have returned it to me. I posted in advance of the deadline, so I do need to make edits... but I'll consider it a victory at this point.

* I wrote a very random treat. It wasn't even the one I went looking for, but I kind of like it.

* Does anyone know if the pinch hits from this morning were claimed? I don't see an email one way or the other and that makes me fret. I want to be able to upload treats and I want to know that everyone will have a story. *fret*

* I definitely plan to write at least one more treat. Maybe two. Of course, if I run out of time, so be it. :)

How are you guys doing? Everyone done with all their holiday related ficathons? I'm nosy and would like to know, so... hit me with details!
This year has just not been good to me. I've not had any time in the past... oh, month, to write and November was dedicated to Nano.

Serves me right, I'm sure, for something.

That all said, I thought through my story and with the help of a friend, roughed out a full plot. I'm 3,150 words into the story and I'm pretty sure it'll top out by 5,000.

That said, is anyone around to do a fast and dirty beta for me tomorrow? I'm 99% sure only one of you is familiar with the fandom, though, so grammar is fine. Besides that, I've gotten so far off the canon grid into speculation and with a character that's fairly minor that I'm not sure even someone familiar with teh canon could tell me if I'm OOC... *frets*

I hope my recipient likes this! I feel like I'm failing her. *fails*

Anyway, if you'll read it for me, can you leave me your email? I'll send it to you early in the morning and I have to post by about 5, due to commitments tomorrow, so a quick return will be necessary.

Thanks!
Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

They're so cute and so little! They make me think of the upcoming movie about dragons, and how much I used to want one. Especially after discovering Anne McCaffrey back in the day. *sighs*

***********

I spent some time tonight getting reacquainted with my Yuletide canon. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it so I'm pretty happy with the request. Plus, this year, I'm pretty sure my recipient will hang around for it! *lol*

How's everyone doing on their Yuletide fic? Inquiring minds want to know.

************

Work has been busy but pretty good. I'm pleased with my day today and that's more than I can say on a lot of days. Tomorrow, I'm stuck at home until Comcast comes and gets their cable boxes back from me. I'm going to get up anyway, though, and after I eat pie for breakfast and have coffee, I'm going to work on getting things straightened up around here.

If I have time, I'll dip into Yuletide canon a bit more.

************

The Holiday Recathon is looking very very good. I'm so excited you guys! *runs around in circles*

I seriously can't wait to read all the fic that's been recced. Some of the stories are old favorites, but a lot of them are new. Whoot!

*************

Also, thanks for all the virtual snowflake cookies! What a fun thing to find waiting for me! *HUGS TO YOU ALL*
