Prompts: 021. Friends and 022. Enemies
Word Count: 200 words, not counting the prompt.
Warnings: These two prompts begged to be used together. Spoilers from X-3; the dialogue is repeated to the best of my memory.
A/N: Feedback always appreciated and welcome!
“Can you handle your old friend?” Wolverine wasn’t asking, it was more of an order. Nodding, I stood up and walked out. Almost calmly, I iced down Pyro’s latest car bomb and it fell harmlessly to the earth.
“Alright, now.” I heard Magneto give him permission and a moment later, I stood staring into the eyes of someone I had once called friend. He looked back at me and when our eyes met, I wondered if he felt it - the death of our friendship.
I think that’s why he didn’t talk and instead threw a wall of fire at me. I met it head on, even as I felt betrayed on the inside. This wasn’t a drill; it wasn’t an exercise. He was trying to kill me and I wasn’t going to let him.
It broke my heart and I felt it freeze as surely as my skin turned to ice. “You shoulda stayed at school.”
He couldn’t hurt me now. Not when I was frozen and I grabbed his hands through the fire. He looked surprised. “You never should have left.” One quick head-butt and it was over. But I meant it, John. I still wish you hadn’t left.
