Hatori - very cool. *dusts off my Furuba memories*

Three things that never happened to Hatori:

1. He never did understand how Momiji's father could abandon his son like that. When he took the boy under his care, he would sometimes hear him crying. He never went in to offer comfort, because Momiji only held himself together out of strength of will and kindness in those moments would undo everything. It almost made Hatori wish he'd never taken an oath to do no harm.

2. He never fully understood Shigure's need to be a manipulative bastard. He loved his friend, would do anything for him, but sometimes he thought the Dog crossed the line. It was his place in the scheme of things to try and leash him in, but Hatori always remembered the wisdom of the saying warning against taking away a dog's toy. He wasn't really afraid of getting bitten as much as he was afraid Shigure, without his 'toys,' would give up and die. Hatori wondered if he would ever be okay with the fact that he repeatedly chose his friend over the innocents hurt in Shigure's games.

3. Hatori never saw New York City. He'd always wanted to, but his condition made travelling difficult, and his family made it impossible. As a boy, he would dream of seeing the Empire State Building and the Statute of Liberty and eating real New York Pizza. He watched the Macy's Day parade every year. But then he became a doctor, and then he became Akito's caretaker, and he knew that he'd never see the Big Apple. And he was okay with it. Mostly.
