Grrr.

No rest for the wicked this weekend. That's the theme, it seems.

Yesterday, neighbors. Today, Oscar.

What have I done to deserve such sleep karma?

Oh well. I've pulled a muscle in my shoulder and I'm thinking about driving to the place where they can fix that. Only I really don't want to leave my house.

Yes, I'm a mess today.

Going to the Farmer's Market at noon though. That'll be good. :D

I should do something productive now, but I won't. Unless surfing the net and/or tv counts as productive...

Happy Sunday.
Because I am slow and filled with fail, I didn't get this posted on Friday. But I shall do it now! The second recs winner was Firefly and I have a few good ones that qualify. So, here you are, flist.

Please to be enjoying! And let me know what you liked, if you please, and I shall keep an eye out for similar fics to rec in the future.

************

The Interview by [livejournal.com profile] lit_gal. This is a River/Jayne fic and while the pairing struck me as strange, I was drawn in by it as well. And then I couldn't stop laughing. At all. This fic is hysterical! Observe: River has decided that she's grown now and it's time for the sexing to begin, but how should she choose a partner. - With that summary, how could this fic not be hysterical?

Stay by [livejournal.com profile] graiae. A rec from the [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest, the author shows us a world where the past is never fully laid to rest. Simon's past, in the form of an arrogant, but brilliant past lover finds him even out on the Rim, and he has to come to terms with who he was and who he is. This has an OC in it, but it is such a well developed character, that I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up in the comics. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Halfway Between One Unification Day and the Next by [livejournal.com profile] ion_bond. Another rec from the [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest, and a fic from [livejournal.com profile] ion_bond to boot! Some of you know her from X-Men and she brings the same excellent turn of phrase and knack for storytelling to Firefly. Sometimes the "bad guys" get things right. Sometimes the "good guys" get things wrong. In a world of grays, it can be hard living in the black and white. This is a fantastic look at sexual politics that rings scarily true in many cases. Freedom for some has never meant freedom for all.

Angel Echoes. This is the first 'episode' in a virtual season of Firefly that was a group project that, sadly, was never completed. Still, this episode stands out as a brilliant piece of storytelling. Set pre BDM, it makes the reader question everything they thought they knew about Firefly, and especially, about Dr. Simon Tam. Excellent writing - very visual - and intense and gripping, I think about this one often and have ever since I read it two years ago.

Faith Based Initiative by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool. Another funny story! I don't know why, but Firefly really lends itself to comedy and, of course, anything by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool is awesome. And this has Mal. And Nuns. Yes, nuns. NUNS, people. "Out of all the passengers Kaylee could've signed on, why'd she gotta pick nuns? Ain't it bad enough she saddled me with a shepherd?" - Go, read and laugh. You'll feel better. :)

**********

I'll be gearing up more recs for next week. I'll probably put up another poll, since that was kind of fun. Keep an eye out for it. Unless, of course, you don't care. And then... well, don't keep an eye out for it. ;)
