The attention to canon is superlative; nearly every detail has been tweaked out of something seen or heard on screen and beautifully expanded on. Although the aforementioned trio are the central characters, most of the major characters in the other series have plenty to do in a story that's 93,000 words.

You see, Ianto Jones is an Addams on his mother's side and his cousins have come to visit him. Absolutely brilliant

Alias

Back when I first got on LJ, I discovered medie's Highlander/Alias crossovers. Now, I'd never even read Alias fic before, but I was intrigued - and there was Methos. These stories have become some of my favourite Highlander xovers.

Aliens
Sleeps with Coyotes wrote Fear , NC17, Aliens /Star Wars; Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Qui/Obi implied), Obi/other. Why this fic is awesome: Are you kidding? Jedi versus Aliens? Of course it's awesome! There are those who will salivate all over the horrible plight of captured Obi-Wan. But me, I simply can't get enough of Qui-Gon Jinn, desperate to rescue his padawan, fighting the Aliens as only a Jedi Master can. Action at its finest, that, and marvelously written.

Angel

briarwood wrote The Exiles PG; Angel/Supernatural; John Winchester, Kate Lockley. Why this fic is awesome: This picks up from the point in Angel when a disillusioned Kate leaves the police force, and it's so plausible that it's become my personal canon. Kate and John have so much in common – they've been hurt by the supernatural world, they're both very much on their own, and the cruel-to-be-kind way that he introduces her to the life of a Hunter is heartbreaking, but so in character.

Battlestar Galactica

resolute wrote Hellfire PG13, Battlestar Galactica/X-Men; Kara Thrace and various X-Men. Why this fic is awesome: Resolute reimagined the X-Men as comic book characters in the BSG universe. A young Kara Thrace finds comfort and courage in the adventures of Cyclops, Persephone, Icarus, and their friends. This fic is a beautiful, seamless blending of the two universes as well as a tribute to the power of reading in a child's life.

Being Human

Why this fic is awesome: This is the second TW/BH crossover fic I stumbled over, before BBC America had aired Being Human, and it was this fic that got me making a note to track down this other show when the option arose: a werewolf getting himself picked up -- yeah, that way, too -- by someone who seems to have his own obsession with spooky-dos. 2nd rec: Because it's George! :) This gets into George's head, the dialogue flows, Andy is his awesome self & gets a chance to shine, and it's a crossover that makes sense! These two characters could conceivably meet, and this could actually happen.

Buffy:The Vampire Slayer
Jennifer wrote Meant and the sequel Quiet , G, BtVS/Star Wars; Buffy/Anakin Skywalker, Buffy/Qui-Gon Jinn. Why this fic is awesome: Two short stories, and the writer tells a whole volume in them. This time Anakin is obsessed with Buffy, instead of Padmé and the consequences are in the second story. But the strength in these two stories, for me, is in what is NOT said. Very wonderfully done.

ishie wrote i lost two cities, lovely ones R; Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Supernatural; John Winchester/Buffy Summers. Why this fic is awesome: Okay, so I am incredibly biased, on account of a) it was written for me in a ficathon and b) I have an irrational love for this pairing, but oh my lordy-loo, this story is wonderful. It cuts so much to the heart of each character; they're both pitch-perfect, warts and all, and yet it's very loving and gentle towards each of them, even as it recognizes that they're both very flawed people. They banter, they have hot sex, they complain about training sullen teenagers to fight demons, and there are even Princess Bride references -- really, what more could you ask for?

mariner wrote The End of the Beginning PG, Harry Potter/Buffy; Rupert Giles, Ethan Rayne, Lily Potter, James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Albus Dumbledore, Lucius Malfoy, Tom Riddle.
Why this fic is awesome: "London, 1981. Rupert Giles and Ethan Rayne may not be wizards, but they thought they understood magic -- until the night they saw a glowing green skull in the sky above a quiet London street. Now they're caught up in a civil war in a world they never imagined existed. But can their "Muggle" magic really win the war? And for which side?"
This very long story works very well in more than one aspect. It works well as a crossover, weaving the two universes almost seamlessly and doing both sets of characters justice. The other aspect this works well from is simply a telling of the days leading up to the legend of The Boy Who Lived. We get to see them all, James and Lily, Sirius, Peter and Remus, Dumbledore and a few new faces. (Not canon-compliant for later books)

Evil Jacquie wrote The Damned NC17, Magnifient 7/ BtVS/ Supernatural; Chris/Buck, Ezra/JD, Nathan/Rain, Josiah, Vin – Sam and Dean Winchester, Bobby – Spike (eventually). Why this fic is awesome: This is a tour de force from EJ in which she manages to weave elements and characters of the different series together seamlessly with her own unique elements into a rich tale of the supernatural. The story grows in the telling, getting darker as the humans get sucked into the world of vampires and demons more and more.

Who do NOT appreciate having vampires and other scum like that around? Yup, that’s definitely some meetings to make this story rock.

nikitangel wrote Her Attention PG13, Buffy/The Fast and the Furious; Faith Lehane, Letty Ortiz, Mia Toretto. Why this fic is awesome: Because these three women are each awesome on their own and even better together, full of attitude and anger and strength.

I'm insanely jealous of the writer that she came up with such a wonderful concept. And she writes it as she does her other work: saying so much in so few words, letting the happenings and images speak for itself. Do as I did, just dive into it and let it surprise you and take you in. The only gripe I have with it is that she ends it where she does, because I feel there's so much more to follow here.

Bonanza
Meg Tipper wrote Four Corners of the Ponderosa PG13, Magnificent 7/Bonanza; Chris Larabee, Ezra Standish, Josiah Sanchez, Vin Tanner, Adam, Ben, Hoss and Joe Cartwright. Why this fic is awesome: This fic is awesome because it crosses two fantastic westerns as Chris and the other three are fleeing from “the law” (corrupt law) and must cut through the Ponderosa to escape. Will the Cartwrights help them? I love how Meg wove this terrific story together and how she had the characters from both shows interact in the tale.

Criminal Minds

kikkimax wrote Defect R, Criminal Minds/ Supernatural; Hotchner, Gideon, Garcia, Morgan, Reid, Agent Henricksen, Sam, Dean, Bobby, Ellen. Why this fic is awesome:Dean is finally captured by the FBI just as his time runs out. Takes place in the SPN universe at the end of the second season and goes in a different direction than season three. In turns insightful and moving, the story turns to action about 3/4 of the way through and since it’s AU you’re never sure exactly what will go down.

Detective Comics

resolute wrote The Difference Between Mourning and Grieving PG, X-Men/Whiteout/Detective Comics; Scott Summers, Lee Forrester, Warren Worthington, Carrie Stetko, Kate Kane. Why this fic is awesome: It's an "unauthorized and unsuspected sequel to Like a Window in Your Heart with great insight into these characters. (I read this without having read Whiteout and knowing very little about Kate Kane, and it's still fabulous!)

Disney

honorh wrote Out of Joint R, Doctor Who/Firefly; Firefly crew, Nine, Rose, and Jack. Why this fic is awesome: Really well done characterizations, especially of the Doctor and River, along with an engaging plot that keeps you reading, with fantastic foreshadowing into both fandoms. Enough to make you go "OH!" but not incredibly heavy-handed.

Jonathan Andrew Sheen wrote The Orchid Thief PG; Nero Wolfe / Dr Who; Archie Goodwin, Nero Wolf, Dr Who, Martha Jones, Inspector Cramer. Why this fic is awesome: I’m a huge Nero Wolfe fan. The author didn’t quite nail Archie’s “voice” but she did a credible Wolfe and she has Cramer to a T. There is a good Dr Who angle, an exciting climax and a twist to the ending. I enjoyed this mystery enough to feel it’s worth the recommendation.

vipersweb wrote Standing on paper stilts R, Highlander/Dr Who; Methos, Nine Why this fic is awesome: In this story the TARDIS takes the doctor to Bordeaux just after 'Revelation 6:8'. In this fic we see wonderful interaction between the last timelord and the oldest immortal.

yamx wrote Heroes and Monsters R, Torchwood / Dr Who; Jack and the Tenth Doctor. Why this fic is awesome: The first part of this story is brutal and yet, out of all the Children of Earth reaction fics I read, it felt the most realistic. Jack is punishing himself in the cruelest way he can think of and the Doctor saves him from himself. I love this because yamx does not shy away from the pain and the trauma, but unlike RTD, she also doesn't abandon Jack (and her readers) there.

pogrebin wrote Persistence of Memory (The Lives of the Saints Remix) PG13, Torchwood / Dr Who; Martha, Jack, Ianto, Gwen, Tosh, Owen. Why this fic is awesome: Martha meets the Torchwood team during the Year that Never Was, and after. Sharp characterization, funny and poignant by turns, and a profound look at Martha's burden of memory; the contrast between the team as she knew them and as she finds them again is especially well done. Worth reading for the beauty of the language alone.

azarsuerte wrote The Trouble with Harry PG13, NCIS / Dr Who; NCIS Team, The Doctor, Martha. Why this fic is awesome: Many crossovers are just devises to bring together your favorite characters for interaction/sex and that's fun. But this is the plot driven kind. This story has workplace politics, engaging characters, a mystery wrapped up in an enigma involved with the Bermuda Triangle and the author carries it off so well that if azarsuerte isn't a scriptwriter she should be! The pace is perfect and the story is broken up into short scenes like a television drama is. A great read! Bonus for anyone who recognizes the title!

nopejr wrote Ten Synonyms for Sensational (The Dragon/TARDIS Overdub) PG, Dr Who / Harry Potter; the Doctor, Draco Malfoy; Why this fic is awesome: I know absolutely nothing about Dr. Who and I'm neutral about Draco. And I love this to bits! The simple storytelling style with sly humor, the pace and THE ILLUSTRATIONS are just made of win!

astrogirl2 wrote Travel Light PG, Doctor Who/Farscape; 7th Doctor, Ace. Why this fic is awesome: The Seventh Doctor and Ace become involved in a rebellion against the Peacekeepers. This has got so much in it: adventure, rebellion, plans, betrayal, dilemmas, good, evil, good intentions, gizmos, loyalty, encouragement, and a hopeful ending. And Baniks, of course. With a great Stark, and Planning!Doctor and GungHo!Ace, and, like, it's great, okay?

torn_eledhwen wrote No need for shame G; Torchwood/Doctor Who; Gwen Cooper, the Doctor. Why this fic is awesome: It's a great Children of Earth aftermath, in which Gwen meets the Doctor and gets answers to some of her questions. Both Gwen and the Doctor are rendered pitch-perfect.

nancybrown wrote In my unique position PG13; Torchwood/Doctor Who; Alice Carter, Jenny, Jack Harkness, Donna. Why this fic is awesome: Alice Carter becomes Jenny's Companion, and they travel through time and space. Rather wonderful crossover, featuring the obvious suspects in cameos, giving Alice a plausible way of slowly healing, and the Alice-Jenny interaction reads delightfully plausible to me.

yahtzee63 wrote The Yankee's Loot PG, Gone with the Wind/Doctor Who; Scarlett O’Hara, The Doctor, Martha Jones. Why this fic is awesome: The Tenth Doctor has known many Companions over the years, and thinks he's ready for almost anything. And then, God help him, he picks up Scarlett O'Hara. Now really, how can you resist this one?!

It follows the events of Firefly's pilot episode, but in the Pirates of the Caribbean world. It's awesome!!

Kristen Murphy wrote Storms in the Desert PG, Highlander/Firefly; Methos, River. Why this fic is awesome: I was utterly charmed the first time I read this story, and forever after remembered it as 'the Methos & River dance story'. It has a wonderful sense of place, along with a perfect River. Her interactions with Methos are a delight.

Why this fic is awesome: This is a fantastic mystery/thriller! I feel the crossover worked out seamlessly. The way the wizards stumble into Torchwood Headquarters and all that ensues was totally believable to me. The flirting and scorching sex scene between Jack Harkness and Harry Potter was a great bonus! So all good right? A couple of things didn’t work for me but they didn’t detract overall from my enjoying this story very much. I felt Harry was too adolescent sexually for someone at least in his late twenties in that he was constantly hard. In the middle of a murder investigation! I think the author worked too hard at trying to show an attraction/ devotion to Snape that she didn’t pull off for me. But most of the Snarry is at the very end after the case is solved so honestly, enjoy the sex scene with the handsome stranger and skip the fluff at the end if your not already inclined to Snarry.

This very long story works very well in more than one aspect. It works well as a crossover, weaving the two universes almost seamlessly and doing both sets of characters justice. The other aspect this works well from is simply a telling of the days leading up to the legend of The Boy Who Lived. We get to see them all, James and Lily, Sirius, Peter and Remus, Dumbledore and a few new faces. (Not canon-compliant for later books)

The author has written both teams well and the tension between them is spot on.

Why this fic is awesome:The fic is awesome because Sam and Dean Winchester are hunters in the Old West. “The Winchesters are chasing something evil which is leaving a trail of bodies across the southwest. The hunt leads them to Four Corners and a meeting with the seven lawmen who protect the town.” Also one of the peace keepers, Josiah Sanchez is a former hunter and Ezra is an Immortal in this story. I really enjoy how the author has transplanted the Winchesters into the OW and how their path becomes entangled with the Mag 7 boys. I recommend all of strangevistor7’s stories.

*Gil Hale wrote The Compassion Trap and the sequel Demolition Men PG, Mag7/Sentinel; Chris/Vin, Jim/Blair, Ezra. Why this fic is awesome: I loved this story so much I bought Sentinel DVD sets after reading it. Chris Larabee and Jim Ellison stalking a missing Vin and Blair was a joy. Ezra was a perfect addition to the mix adding wonderful humor and balance. The story was intriguing and provided nice Vin and Blair history, and some wonderful scenes that I still think about often. Loved it. 2nd Story: Jim Ellison and Chris Larabee are kidnapped. Mayhem ensues when Vin, Ezra and Blair are not going to give up on finding them and getting them back. Not that Jim and Chris don’t do a fine job of making their kidnappers completely miserable all by themselves!! The story is great fun and written in Gil Hale’s wonderful style. As usual with her stories her characters are spot on.

Farad wrote Vampire by Any Other Name and the sequel Confusions of Choice NC17, Mag7/SGA; All Seven, Chris/Buck. Why this fic is awesome: I almost didn't read this after the opening because I was afraid it would turn out horribly, but I loved watching this unfold. I'm a fan of angry Chris, and loved the dynamics between all the characters, particularly Vin and Chris as the rest of the guys tried to keep things together. I couldn't stop reading.
