"This is why Ah don't play sports," Rogue groused, her leg propped up on a pillow at the foot of her bed. "Ah suck at it."
"You don't suck at it." Kitty protested, trailing off when she saw Rogue's arched eyebrow.
"Ah tripped over nothing. How do you explain that?"
"Soccer is dangerous," Kitty offered sheepishly.
Rogue snorted, but a small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Or maybe Ah just suck at it?"
"Yeah, or maybe that." Kitty agreed finally. "But look at the bright side. No Danger Room practices, no gym class, and you're own personal book-carrying-door-opening-lunch-fetching-general-all-around-helper for free!"
Rogue hummed softly. "Ah didn't know about that last perk. Who's applying for the position?"
"Me." Kitty bounced on the balls of her feet and grinned.
"Maybe a sprained ankle is so bad after all." Rogue conceded with a small grin. "Especially considering the perks."
"Does this mean I get the job?" Kitty sidled over and sat next to Rogue, careful not to jostle her ankle or touch her naked skin.
"If you're sure you want it."
"I don't mind," Kitty suddenly blushed slightly. "It's nice to get to spend some extra time with you. I mean, I'm not exactly the sort of girl you have as friends - I look awful in black."
Rogue laughed out loud, the first genuine laugh she'd had since the soccer accident earlier that day. "Kitty, don't ever change. Not for me, not for anyone. You're pretty damn perfect just the way you are."
"Really?" Kitty's blush deepened and Rogue reached out a glove hand to push a strand of hair out of Kitty's eyes.
"Ah think so." Rogue's answer was slightly husky.
"Well," Kitty swallowed. "That's all that matters right now."
"Then Ah have my first request," Rogue answered.
"Sure, what do you need?" Kitty started to stand, but Rogue held her still.
"Ah need you to agree to go out with me once Ah can walk without crutches again."
Kitty's heart skipped a beat, then she lept to her feet, phasing through Rogue's restraining hand. Rogue looked stricken. "Ah'm sorry if Ah insulted you."
"No, you didn't." Kitty promised, stopping long enough to smile at Rogue. "I'm just going to get more ice, and some Tylenol, and an ace bandage, and maybe some muscle cream..." She bolted through the door, still talking, Rogue's laughter trailing her down the hall.
