Request: Android 16
A/N: I've never written anything about 16 before and it's been ages since I've seen the eps with him in it. I decided to couch my bets about my lack of 16 specific knowledge and do a speculation piece. Hope it's alright!

For June!Challenge Day 18!

Gero studied the thing he had created dispassionately. The thing studied him back the same way. Finally, Gero spoke to it. “Can you hear me?”

“Yes.” He had a surprisingly melodic voice for a machine.

“Do you know who I am?”

“Yes. You are the Creator.” Well, Gero mused, that answer was certainly true.

“I did create you. Do you understand why I created you?”

“To kill Son Goku.” The massive android sounded so calm and peaceful that the sentence almost seemed impossible coming from his mouth.

“Yes, I created you to kill that son of a bitch. Will you do it for me?”

“Yes. If I should ever find him, I will kill him for you. It is my purpose for being.”

“Good. I want you to demonstrate your power for me.” The Android nodded his obedience and stood up off of the examination table that Gero had laid him on before activation. Walking purposefully towards the front of the cavern that Gero had built his headquarters in, the doctor was surprised when the Android stopped and with one fist shattered the desk holding all of Gero’s papers.

“What are you doing?!” Gero screeched and, impassively, the Android turned towards him.

“Demonstrating.”

“No, no no! Go outside! Blast a hole in the ground or something! Don’t destroy my office!”

Android Model No. 16 nodded, the top of his spiky red Mohawk (a personal favorite touch of Gero’s) nearly brushing the top of the cavern. Gero followed the android from a distance, staring at his ruined desk in dismay. That would take hours to clean up.

Once outside, the Android paused in confusion, looking around the valley. Gero stepped out beside him and pointed down at the river bank. “There! Destroy that beaver dam.”

“I cannot.” The Android shook his head.

“What do you mean you can’t?” Gero grouched. “You had no problem destroying my desk!”

“There is ki in that dam,” Android 16 replied calmly, unaffected by the doctor’s growing rage.

“So what? It’s probably just the stupid beavers!”

“I cannot.” Number 16 replied firmly. “I was not created to kill innocent life, only Son Goku.”

“I am your Creator!” Gero was nearly apoplectic with rage. He had bee so certain that this model would be the final one, that all of his hard work would pay off. “I made you and I am ordering you to destroy that dam! Blast it! Now!!!”

“No.” Android 16 did not even turn to look at the short angry doctor who was practically dancing in rage beside him. “That is not my reason for being.”

“Your reason for being is to serve me in any way I see fit!” Gero was purple in rage, but the giant android paid him no attention.

“No. I will kill Son Goku. That is all.”

“If you can’t kill a few stupid beavers than you are useless to me against Goku.” Frustrated the doctor jerked a remote control out of his pocket. “I might as well dismantle you and begin again.” Hitting several buttons on the remote, Gero sighed as the giant android slowly collapsed on himself.

Sitting down on the ground beside 16, Gero put his considerable intelligence to the task of figuring out what had gone wrong. The Android had been nearly perfect. He was strong enough to kill Goku, Gero was almost positive of that. He just didn’t have the capacity for dealing death that Gero was searching for. Chewing on that thought for a moment, Gero smiled. Perhaps that was his problem. Human beings dealt death with an ease greater than that of any creature he had come across. Perhaps, instead of beginning from a machine, he should begin from a person.

He was fairly certain that he could add enough biomechanical aspects to an already existing person to make them as strong as Goku. If he could manage that… he would finally have success.

Chuckling, he left 16 where he lay for the time being and returned to straighten his lab. He needed to start sketching out his plans. Then he would need just the right subject… or subjects. If he attempted to create two human based androids, rather than one, he was twice as likely to have success. He would see Goku dead if it killed him. It was, after all, his only remaining reason for being.
