A rec list that keeps evolving...

A few notes:
1. Some of the links may lead to off LJ sites.
2. Each reader is responsible for double checking warnings on the story itself. It is not my job, nor the job of anyone else, to make sure you’re aware of the contents of the story.
3. I encourage you all to leave feedback for the authors! Feed the authors and they will continue to feed us.
4. This would not have happened if it were not for the generous help of many, many people. In particular, I would like to thank
diabel_gt for making the lovely banner above and
roguecatwoman for coding the recs list. You are both super stars!
5. Lastly, feel free to squee in the comments if you’re so inclined.
And now for the recs!
****************************
Author: Apathy wrote Flight. (NR) (Kitty Pryde). Excellent fic from Kitty's POV of the students escaping the mansion.
Author:
artaxastra wrote The Last of the Jedi. (NR) (Charles/Erik, Jean Grey). Interesting fic of what Jean's life could have been like at the beginning of Xavier's School.
Author: Ash wrote The Martyr of the Mutant Race. (PG-13) (Rogue)
Author:
bishclone wrote Seventeen. (R) (Xavier/Jean)
Author: darkstar wrote:
Alive and Dying. (PG-13) (Logan/Marie). This author is one of the best at poetry, I think. This poem is dark and makes me shiver--and it feels so real, so very real, all the emotions intense within me as I read. A futuristic Logan/Marie dark!ficpoem. I keep re-reading it and finding more awesomeness in it . . . *so* good.
Atmospheric Breach. (PG) (Logan/Rogue, Magneto/Rogue). Another amazing poem, this one of Logan's thoughts after losing Rogue to Magneto, and during the Statue scene.
Bells Over London. (PG) (Logan/Marie). Author's Summary: What are our best memories? The things we have done or the things we have dreamed? Is there really that much of a distinction? Marie reflects on a very special Christmas.
A fic so full of detail you can feel every bit of it . . . A snapshot in time of Logan and Rogue.
Eight Blues. (PG-13) (Logan/Marie). This one's done in prose poetry, and explores a darker side to Logan and Marie's relationship.
Eurydice Alone. (PG-13) (). Another amazing poem by this talented writer; my favorite line is "trust is the stained glass mirror / you don't know yet that i've cracked."
Las Bas: Song of the Drowned. (PG-13) (). Possibly *the* best post-MRA fic I've read yet. Incredibly powerful and sad. Lines like "we all measure our sanity by the illusions we keep" and the end of chapter 16 . . . I have the last three paras *memorized*, the words struck me so much. She has a distinct writing style that really draws me in, more like prose poetry than regular fic.
Lazarus Undone . (PG-13) (). A powerful (and very sad) poem.
Author: Diebin wrote Back For You. (PG-13) (Logan/Marie). Remember the lovely end scene with Marie and Logan before he takes off for Alkali Lake? This gives a little more depth to it . . .
Author: Eileen Blazer wrote The Encounter. (K+) (Rogue/Gambit). Rogue goes out without Bobby on a ‘Ladies Night’ and meets a charming stranger.
Author: Gaineewop wrote Light / Blackout (series). (NC-17) (Logan/Storm)
Author: Jamie wrote Child's Play. (PG-13) (Logan/Marie). A cute funny Logan/Rogue fic with a scheming kid thrown in . . . had me giggling madly at points.
Author: jenn wrote:
Every Second Wednesday. (PG-13) (Rogue). This story's rather creepy/chilling. Rogue's mind and all the personalities that live in it--mostly focusing on Logan and Erik. And meetings with Xavier . . .
Jus Ad Bellum. (Adult) (Rogue). "One Rogue. Two timelines. Three personalities. Every possibility. Rogue discovers who she is, could have been, and everything she can become.
Warning: This story deals with many controversial themes; racism, terrorism, war, violence, sexual situations, both consensual and non; and mature situations. Adults only, please."
That said, I love this story--the what-if this explores is chilling, very very chilling indeed . . . and the story is so good. Very well done, imho.
Author: jjblazer wrote:
Bugs. (R) (Logan, Marie). A funny little fic of Rogue's "buggy" plan to get Logan to notice her . . .
It's Raining Men. (R) (Logan/Marie). This is one of the best AU Logan/Marie meeting fics ever. I love the whole style of the writing, and the little things that make it funny or sweet or just plain *good* here and there . . .
Northern Territories. (NC-17) (). Awesome AU . . . not sure how to describe it. Long and good.
Author: Karabair wrote The Busy Griefs. (PG-13) (). One of the very best post-X2 fics--the story of grief we didn't get to see in X3, as the author essentially said in her intro to it. Absolutely *love* it. The first para is powerful. The sequel is Bad Day, set 6 months after The Busy Griefs.
Author: Kate Bolin wrote Rules. (PG) (Rogue, Ensemble). A funny little fic about the spoken and unspoken rules at Xavier's School, from Rogue's POV.
Author: Katherine wrote For Now (The F*** Waiting Remix). (PG-13) (Logan/Marie). Both the original fic and the remix are *excellent*. I like the remix better because it's done from Logan's POV instead of Marie's, and gives more insight--he sees things about her she doesn't face instantly, and it's easier for the reader to be omniscient with that than to take what Marie thinks and analyze it for what she's *not* saying. Possibly the best Logan/Marie start-of-relationship fic, and shows a nice progression.
Author:
luciademedici wrote:
Gaping Chest Wounds. (T) (Rogue/Gambit)
Sandcastles. (M) (Gambit/Rogue, Gambit/Mystique)
Author: Malvolia wrote A Beautiful Flirtation. (K) (Rogue/Remy)
Author: Minisinoo wrote:
Agonia. (K) (Scott/Jean). An excellent fic of Scott dealing with Jean's death.
Broken. (K+) (Scott/Jean). "Friendships, like marriages, are dependent on avoiding the unforgivable." (John D. MacDonald) - quote used by author as summary. A very good fic exploring Scott and Jean's relationship, and leaving one thinking . . .
Climb the Wind. (NR) (Scott, Logan). This one brought tears to my eyes on the first read. *Very* intense, action/adventure with character study, and dark--there's some character death in there, and definite graphic violence. Starts off with a big one, and there are more before the end. And lines of it still come back to me, and I have to re-read parts, even as my eyes tear up again and my gut clenches . . .
Grail. (M) (Scott/Jean). sequel to Special: The Genesis of Cyclops, an alternate history for Scott. This one's possibly the best AU X3 (though Blackout is also good), and incorporates the Legacy virus. Excellent long fic.
Letters & Papers from Prison. (NR) (Rogue, Magneto). Post-X1. This is one of the most thoughtful fics I've run across yet. In it, Rogue is dealing with some of Erik's memories of the Holocaust. This one always leaves me thoughtful.
Like Water. (T) (Scott/Jean/Logan). This one's not a favorite so much as a very good treatment of the S/J/L triangle. And I love the last line, the way it finishes off everything before.
Mutant Darwin Awards. (K+) (Jean, Strom, Scott). Funny glimpse into the lives of the X-Men when they're not saving the world.
Author: Molly wrote Clamor. (PG-13) (Rogue/Jean, Rogue/Logan, Magneto/Xavier). A fic that specifically deals with Rogue and how she handles the aftermath of the Statue of Liberty incident. She's got strong doses of both Erik and Logan in her now, and it makes things interesting . . .
Author: MollyTM wrote Do Not Disturb. () (). A good take on a depressing possibility. I particularly like the last line.
Author:
moowithme113 wrote A Mutant Christmas Carol . (PG) (Ensemble). A cute, funny little fic where Xavier's School puts on A Christmas Carol. Guess who's Scrooge?
Author: Musamea wrote A Heap of Broken Images. (T) (Rogue). Excellent story of Rogue, post-X3 and when the cure starts failing . . . I especially like the use of the T.S. Eliot poem--another set of favorite fics are named after the same parts that the sections within this one are--only those were Tolkien fics. Some of the very best, too . . .
Author: Nyarth wrote Time Heals All. (PG) (Wolverine, Charles Xavier)
Author: Pat Phillips wrote:
Outsiders. (PG) (Logan, Marie). It has some lines that stick with me. Logan talks with Marie and reveals a decision he's made.
Rooftop. (PG-13) (Logan, Kurt). Another fic with some lines that stick with me, particularly the last thing Kurt says. In it, Logan and Kurt have a conversation they might have had if Kurt stayed with the X-Men.
Author: Peter Meilinger wrote Definitely Someday. (PG) (Logan/Marie). A sweet little fic featuring Logan and Rogue, and Logan actually *cooks*.
Author: Rei Kinneas wrote Hush. (NC-17) (Logan/Marie). A good fic for the way it interprets characters and raises some possible issues that I haven't seen raised in any other fic to date. Warning: This one may be very disturbing to some, as it contains some definitely adult themes.
Author: Rex Luscus wrote Not Less Than Everything. (NC-17) (Nightcrawler/Wolverine). Well-characterized psychological romance drama with a pairing that deserves more recognition.
Author: Tamarai wrote Lucky Gamble. (M) (Rogue/Gambit). Gambit shows up a few years after X3…
Author: Te wrote Sugar and spice and . . . . (PG) (Logan, Charles)
Author: Titaniafae (aka Diana) wrote Loss of Composure series. (PG-R) (Scott/Ororo). Awesome Scott/Ororo fic. I've decided now that they are my favorite pairing, even over Logan/Rogue. Next in order would probably be Logan/Ororo and Scott/Rogue . . .
Author: TriplePirouette wrote Value. (PG-13) (). "Fiat experimentum in corpore vili: (Translation) Let the experiment be made on a body of no value." This fic is another one that sends me away with a slightly thoughtful feeling.
Author: Victoria P wrote:
32 Flavors. (PG) (Jean Grey). This one I like because of the way it portrays the characters and gives some insights.
All of Heaven Away. (G-R) (Scott/Jean/Logan/Rogue). This is one of the best series dealing with the S/J/L/R quadrangle (and throw Ororo and Hank in the right places too). The ending always sticks with me somehow . . .
Author:
xenokattz wrote Elemental. (M) (Cyclops, Gambit, Havok & Adam-X)
Author: xfan wrote Afterwards. (R) (Ororo, Logan)
