Hi! I'm guest reccing this month at [livejournal.com profile] spnroundtable and I have spent the last few days organizing the fics I want to rec. I'm not done yet, but I figured I'd get started with some gen recs from eras past. The earliest fics are pre-series and the last one is something that should still happen (imo). (Also, since it's October, the first one is a Halloween fic, too!)

Enjoy and don't forget to feedback the author!

[livejournal.com profile] vorpalblades wrote Art Imitating. PG-13. Sammy has to tell his class a scary story, so he tells them about one of John's jobs. -This is a rare, truly funny fic. Sam has to break rule 1 – never talk about the family business. He does so in typical Sam fashion, with Dean cheering from the sides.

[livejournal.com profile] eloise_bright wrote Whipping Boy. PG13. Pastor Jim considers John Winchesters parenting methods – and hopes there is a method. -This is not a nice look at John Winchester, but it's probably an accurate one.

[livejournal.com profile] jainadurron wrote Salt of the Earth. PG. Dean and Sam pursue a demon in Utah. - This is set after season 2 and perfectly catches the mood of that time period, before the boys became pawns in a much bigger war and when they just cared about keeping each other safe.

[livejournal.com profile] spastic_visions wrote Long Time Coming. PG. For a long time, all you can see is white. - Henrickson after the explosion, if he hadn't died. This is a great fic and one that I keep hoping will become canon. The second person works perfectly, because Henrickson is coaching himself.

[livejournal.com profile] debbiel66 wrote Off the Map. PG. Post Season 4: Injured and on the run, Dean and Sam encounter a town that is nothing like anything they've ever encountered. - This is a very unusual look at the boys and the message in it was soothing and hopeful. I enjoyed this a great deal, despite the fact that it was more of a healing than an ass kicking fic. The boys could use some more healing.

PS - For new folks to my LJ - hi! Also, I have every fic I've ever recced in my memories sorted by fandom and labeled with author, title, rating. Please check them out!
I'm reccing Burn Notice at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van this month, too. I've written a series overview - so for anyone who wants to rec but didn't because they didn't want to have that chore, please sign up to rec now! The path is clear!

This is the first of my recs.

Title: Rumor Has It
Fandom: Burn Notice
Pairing: Michael/Lucy
Author on LJ: Laura Smith ([livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl)
Author Website: Her LJ
Why this must be read: The series begins with Micheal's Burn Notice. There is a definite dearth of mission fic, but when it's done well, it's amazing. As this fic is. Lucy Chen, one of the people in Micheal's life that he still slightly trusts goes way back. This is a tale of their possible first meeting.

Author's Summary: He's not goddamn McGuyver.

Excerpt: Being a spy is never easy. It’s not like school where they start you out with the basics and let you work your way up from addition to quantum physics. Being a spy is kind of like dropped off in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and being told to swim to shore. Michael’s first assignment is a little easier than that - overthrow a minor African government with a toothpick, a container of Silly Putty and an empty glass bottle.

Okay, the empty glass bottle is actually a rocket launcher and the toothpick is insider information, but he’s not kidding about the Silly Putty. It is, after all, not just for lifting comics off the newspaper page.

Rumor Has It
Title: Nobody Does it Better
Fandom: Burn Notice
Pairing: Michael/Fiona
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anonymous_sibyl
Author Website: Her LJ
Why this must be read: The relationship between Fiona and Michael is one of the most complex and interesting, not to mention entertaining, on the show. Fiona is devoted to Michael, often despite himself, but she has her ways of keeping him in line.

Author's Summary: A good spy learns from his mistakes.

Excerpt: When Fiona smiled after that last fight and said “one more for the road, Michael?” I thought she meant sex. I meant sex. We always meant sex. Every fight, every celebration, Fiona and I ended them all with sex. Usually began them that way, too. So I said yes, then headed for the shower to wash off the blood and grime from the last forty-eight hours. Only half of it came from the fight I’d been in before coming back to the hotel we were calling home this week. The rest was all Fiona.

Nobody Does it Better
Hi folks!

There was definitely interest in doing this again this year. I'd like to make sure things run a bit smoother behind the scenes, so I'm moving up some deadlines. Please let me know your thoughts - especially if you think you're going to volunteer to help me out.

General Schedule:

* Nominations post will go up on October 09 and will close on October 16.
* Voting will take place from October 17 - October 24.
* Banner makers will have from October 25 - October 30.
* Fandom Leaders will be able to pick up banners on October 31 and Recs Posts will go up the same day.
* Advertising and Recs will be made from November 1 - November 30.
* Fandom Leaders will have from December 1 - December 10 to get their lists coded.
* Recs will go up between December 12 - December 24.

I would really like to have at least 6 Fandom Leaders to help out - each of you will have 2 fandoms that you will be responsible for. I would love for you to help with advertising and then be responsible for coding. I'll help with advertising, maintain the recs posts, and post the final list.

I'm looking forward to comments.

Thanks!
