The Castle family moments are really what make me love this show. I said it above, but it bears repeating - it is nice to see a family that apologetically love each other. (It's even nice, imo, that it's not a traditional nuclear family.)
I love that Castle respects his daughter and I love that she respects him, too.
I think your ending would have worked better. I think, though, that Beckett had already forgiven him, she just needed him to apologize. I really love, though, that Castle didn't wait to be forgiven. He left that decision to her completely and made his very sincere apology - at least it felt that way to me.
Despite everything, I think Beckett really and truly likes Castle. She wants to forgive him, she just couldn't until he actually understood that what he'd done was wrong - even if it was well meaning, even if it was productive - it was still wrong.
And I think he got that. By the end, I think he really understood. (Though I don't think for a second Alexis wasn't setting him up. *lol*)
