So, now that it's December, I figured I'd put up my Christmas Wish List. I've been a very moderately good girl this year, so maybe Santa will be nice to me. :)
Rules
1. Make a post to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from something simple and fandom-related to something really big. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
2. Surf around your friends list to see who has posted their list. If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy.
3. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. Some new icons. Bobby Drake in recent comics would be good. So would some holiday icons from Psych. I like funny phrases, but I'm bad at thinking them up. Other fandoms that would be awesome - Burn Notice, Rhamdom (it's totally a fandom!), and Castle.
2. A header for my LJ and someone willing to install it! Same fandoms as above, but really anything that you know I'll like, I'll like!
3. Music suggestions. I've hit a wall and need something to help me out here. I like alternative and hard rock, but I would be amiss to some classical or something funky. I've just acquired Josh Ritter, so anything like that, too. Just... no country, unless you think it's so amazing that it will override my kneejerk hate of twang.
4. A fandom calendar with various pictures of my various fandoms. That would be awesome!
5. For the Recathon to go well and people to enjoy themselves in it. (I get nervous!)
6. For someone to help me unpack boxes and get my office organized. (I just moved.)
7. Fic. In particular, I would like to see any of the following pairings (or just single characters, too!): Marvel - Bobby Drake/Peter Parker, Namor/Anyone, really, Hank/Brand, Hank&Bobby friendship fic (preferably set in current canon), original 4/5 fic set in current canon, or original 5 fic set anywhere. Burn Notice - Michael/Fiona or Michael/Sam are equally lovely. Michael&Nate gen fic. Michael/James Bond if you're adventurous. :D Castle - anything at all, but Esposito and Ryan would be epic.
8. Recipes! I'd love everyone to leave me their favorite holiday recipe. I'll even put up a master post if I get enough and share with everyone!
9. Long shot: someone to figure out my health issue and actually cure me. Or, you know, health insurance.
10. Either paid LJ time or icon time for here or for
bewize. Always a plus.
Now, if you have a list, please, please *please* link me to it. I've been without internets for a while and I can search back, but it'll take a while!

Date: 2009-12-07 03:23 am (UTC)I looked at the links and I'm too stupid to figure them out. *frets* I like somethign with the tags showing and nothing with light writing on dark backgrounds. I also like layouts that allow for individual icons per each post.
I would love anything Iceman or Burn Notice centric, and I would probably love a lot more, I just fail at being articulate.
THANK YOU!

Date: 2009-12-01 06:01 pm (UTC)And I don't know if Brandi Carlile would be too much twang for you... she's pretty country, but she's great. :)

The Animal Years: http://www.mediafire.com/?nmntqxmhroc
Animal Years is, without a doubt, my favorite CD of his. But Hello Starling has "Kathleen," which I think is one of the most beautiful songs ever. Enjoy 'em!

Date: 2009-12-07 04:46 pm (UTC)I REALLY want you to hear Man Burning (it's on Hello Starling), if just because it's the perfect Michael Weston song.
"Don't stand too close to me
Don't be another tragedy
I've burned everybody who had a hand to lend
Man burning at both ends."

Date: 2009-12-07 03:30 am (UTC)my list!
recipe - peanutbutter fudge tarts
Date: 2009-12-01 06:29 pm (UTC)1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup peanutbutter
dash (sorry I'm not much for measuring) salt
dash baking soda
1 cup flour
dash of vanilla
2 cups chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
*dashes are about a tsp? I usually throw in pinches till it looks right. Sorry!
1. Cream butter, add sugars
2. Mix in egg, peanut butter, baking soda, and salt.
3. Blend in flour (you might need a bit more than 1 cup, I always add more)
4. Add vanilla, stir.
5. Line a muffin tray with paper cups
6. Roll dough into balls then flatten slightly into pudgy disks. (should be about 1 1/2-2 tbsp of dough per disk)
7. Place dough disks into muffin cups and bake for 8 minutes at 350F (did I mention the oven should be preheated? - 'cause I'm not re-numbering everything)
8. Remove from oven and use something smaller than the bottom of the muffin tin (I use an old pill bottle lid) to press in a small flat depression.
9. Bake for another 2 minutes.
10. Remove and let cool.
11. Mix chocolate chips and cond. milk in saucepan or double boiler (low heat), until melted and smooth.
12. Remove from heat.
13. When cool enough not to burn yourself, but still liquid scoop fudge into an icing gun (I usually have to refill it several times)
14. Squeeze out fudge in a spiral pattern into depression in cookie bottom
-if you really want to, you can just spoon fudge into cookie cup, but it looks a little poop like if you do ;)
Let fudge cool, eat.

Date: 2009-12-01 07:48 pm (UTC)3 TBSP of butter, room temperature.
1 – 1 ½ loaves of French/Cuban/Italian bread. Enough to fill a 9” x 13” baking pan.
4 Cup Milk (or use 2 c. Milk and 2 c. Heavy Cream)
2 Cup Sugar
3 Eggs
2 TBSP of vanilla extract
1 TBSP of cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 375 deg.
Butter the pan – all three tablespoons. Cut up the bread and lay it in the pan, face sides almost down, sorta staggered. Fill any empty spaces with bread pieces.
Whisk together the rest of the ingredients. Pour the mixture in the pan, covering all of the bread. Let it set for at least an hour, and pat down the bread with a spatula every once in a while to cover the tops with the custard mixture.
Bake at 375 deg for about 45 mins, until the edges are brown.
Whiskey Sauce
8 TBSP Butter (1 stick)
1 Cup Sugar
¼ Cup Whiskey (1 mini bottle)
2 TBSP Water
1 TSP Ground Nutmeg
1 egg
In a heavy saucepan, melt butter, then whisk together the next 4 ingredients on medium heat. Beat the egg in a separate bowl and set aside. Remove the sauce from the heat, then whisk in the egg. Heat back to a simmer, whisking constantly until it thickens. Then pour is over the top of the pudding.

Date: 2009-12-02 06:16 am (UTC)Step A. Make Chocolate cake (I cheat and use a mix); prepare the batter as instructed except use coffee instead of water and add plenty of shredded coconut. Make in 2 round pans.
Step B. Make daquoise layer (meringue layer). Beat 4 egg whites to stiff peaks, add a couple of tablespoons of sugar and a large handful of toasted finely chopped walnuts and fold them in. Spread and back in the same shape pan as the cake.
Step C. When everything is cool, make a white chocolate 'mousse' by folding melted white chocolate into whipped cream. Can be tricky - add a little whipped cream first to lighten the chocolate. I actually also cheat on this step by adding a couple of tablespoons of storebought vanilla frosting - I think the chemicals smooth it out or something because it helps.
Step D. Make a ganache by gently heating cream with a little strong coffee, and melting dark chocolate in it. I also add some orange zest, but you can leave it out, add a tbsp of brandy instead, etc.
Step E. Assemble.
First layer of cake.
Spread cherry or raspberry or apricot preserves on the cake.
Spread white chocolate mousse
Add daqoiuse layer.
Spread preserves
Spread mousse
Add second layer for the cake
Cover everything with chocolate ganache.
Sprinkle top with toasted walnut pieces.
Eat!
