This was a nice start. I like Gus, he's down to earth and very human. Shawn is fun, playing his games with innocent glee, but not really innocent in any other way. I hope you give us a bit more of this world, it could get very interesting (read - dangerous and exciting). You've given us a glimpse, but built it on a solidly described bedrock, so it is a world that hangs together well. Nice stuff.
