Bobby saw Kitty and Piotr watching him, waiting for his answer, and couldn’t fathom why. Both were more suited than him to lead. Logan, Ororo and Hank watched him expectantly, also waiting.
Feeling a metaphorical chill creep down his spine, Bobby nodded. “For Scott and the Professor.”
They ran towards the jet that would take them to Alcatraz where Bobby was pretty sure that the six of them would die facing Magneto’s army. But that was okay. He had made his decision. He would not abandon this family. Alone, he couldn’t win; he could only fall. United they would stand.

For a few of the students at Xavier’s, the second Friday of October was a fun day. Those lucky students showed their families around the campus, talking excitedly about classes and powers and friends. Grinning, Bobby saw Kitty’s parents talking to Storm, clearly uncomfortable.
For other students, it was a painful day. Rogue had refused to leave her room and Jubilee’s constant smile was conspicuous in absence and the Asian girl quickly excused herself. But for him, it was better to watch all the people who had come to visit. It made it easier to ignore the ones who hadn’t.

A/N: Set anytime post X-2.
Bobby’s father had held old-fashioned ideas about children. They were better seen and not heard. Boys played sports and didn’t cry when they were injured. Boys didn’t accept medical treatment unless bones were broken or stitches needed. Boys didn’t get their feelings hurt either.
Bobby lay on the bed, his shoulder screaming from where he’d fallen during the Danger Room session. He could almost see stars. Despite the pain, though, there were no tears in Bobby’s eyes. His father would have been proud; at least, he would have been if he’d ever forgive Bobby for having been being born different.

A/N: Set post X-2 and pre X-3.
Bobby didn’t celebrate his birthday. He’d stopped celebrating it after his family had thrown him out. It didn’t seem right to celebrate a day that they undoubtedly loathed.
Instead, he celebrated something else. Freezing his entire body into rock hard ice, Bobby laughed. He wasn’t as invulnerable as Colossus, he wasn’t as in control of his element as Storm, but it was enough. Around him, the other kids were intrigued, amused, and completely unafraid of him.
Iceman’s birthday was much more fun than Bobby Drake’s had ever been anyway. In this form, he could even make his own ice cream.

Bobby stared at the paper in shock. His grandmother’s obituary stared back at him. The clipping had come in the mail; his mother’s handwriting clearly discernible. She hadn’t written to him in over a year, so his nervousness at reading it was understandable.
He reread the lines, an ache in his chest. “Lenore Drake, 83, passed away in her sleep. Funeral services to be held Sunday, March 30.” He looked at the postmark again - April 3.
He hadn’t even been invited to the funeral. The message was ice clear. His grandmother wasn’t the only one dead to his family.
