A few notes:

_beetle_ wrote Jim Kirk's Rules of Engagement. NC-17. Kirk/McCoy. I may be prejudiced because the fic was written for me, but the story is such a mixture of sexy, sweet, angsty, snarky fun that you'll find it hard to resist. Jim's rules are hilarious and touching as are his Bones orientated alterations. The banter between the two is lovely and I adore how the author manages to work Archer into the story as well. Jim is tenacious, Bones is grumpy and the Big and Little spoons allusion just makes my toes curl. If sex and fun is your thing - this fic is for you.
1297 wrote Once More Unto the Breach and Logic Will Break Your Heart. R. Kirk/Uhura. I love the view of the world through Kirk's and Uhura's eyes. They're much more than what they appear to be. The progression of their relationship is believable and feels right. I recommend all her K/U stuff.
AngelBaby1 wrote 5 Times James Kirk Almost Died and One He Didn't. Jim Kirk, Enterprise crew, hints of Kirk/Spock. Yeah, yeah, so the "5 Times" fanfic meme thing is pretty overdone. I don't usually like them much myself, but this one is FABULOUS. There aren't many times in which I go from clutching my chair in fear for the characters to laughing my ass off. The writing is very clever and engaging, and the characterizations are brilliant. At six chapters, this isn't really a monster of a fic, but it's a great read for someone who wants something more than just a one-shot (but not an epic).
annenburg wrote A Series of Hurdles PG-13. Sarek/Amanda. The difficulties of a human bringing a half-Vulcan child to term are explored and I literally grieved with Amanda. Plus Sarek’s love for Amanda is palpable and I enjoy any fic that explores their relationship.
anodyna wrote The Orion-on-Vulcan Method. R. Gaila/Spock Prime. How can a perky Orion recuperating on New Vulcan not be funny?! Absolutely wonderful!
atomicskull wrote Citylights. NC-17. Kirk/McCoy, Spock/Uhura, Sulu/Chekov. It's shocking how well this works but this is the Enterprise as a fashion magazine, helmed by the usual crew (Kirk is Editor-in-Chief, Spock is Fashion Editor, Uhura is Features Editor, McCoy is Head Photographer) with a couple acting as high fashion models (Chekov, Sulu). Excellent world building and an all-around wonderful series that just recently wrapped up with the final installment made up as a feature article by Gaila Nichols.
ayalesca wrote Happy Families Are All Alike. PG-13. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. Heartbreaking. 2nd POV is tricky but it's perfect for the story that's being told. It's the fic about Bones you didn't know you needed to read until you read it.

She takes a small moment from the movie--Jim being ridiculous with an apple while taking the Kobayashi Maru--and extrapolates Jim and Bones's whole relationship out of it. There is the perfect combination of Kirk and McCoy being adults, literary quotes, world building, little character notes for the whole ensemble, and loving friendship. Plus Bones and Jim each making sure the other eats is one of the most lovely things ever.
Four Fierce Chocolate Cakes. R. Uhura, Spock, Kirk, McCoy. When Uhura and Spock invite Kirk to join them for a threesome they are nonplussed when he refuses them. Their increasing attempts to understand the reasoning behind his refusal and to get him to join them end in a very embarrassing confrontation. I love the ending of this fic and really enjoy the great rebuttal of the Kirk slut trope so prevalent in the fandom.
Just Desserts. PG-13. Kirk/McCoy, pie. I am a sucker for stories that 1)get the south right and 2)deal with established relationships. This one fills both of those requirements, AND contains the only description of pecan pie that has ever made me wish I liked the stuff.
We Defy Augury. NC-17. Krik/McCoy. Genius!Kirk, Shakespeare, intelligent and character-driven angst, super-hot sex, and genuine communication. Glorious.

To say that he's unprepared would be an understatement and now the fun begins!

crimsonclad wrote Cut and Fucking Paste and Edit. PG-13. Kirk & Spock. The mind meld between Spock Prime and Kirk has produced confusion for the Captain. Poor Jim tries to reconcile Spock Prime's memories of his lover with Jim's present day relationship with his first officer. I love the Captain and Spock's bafflement and Uhura's reaction when Spock tries to explain it to her.
d8rkmessngr wrote Alone in a Crowd. NC-17. Kirk/McCoy. Very interesting POVs as the crew observe moments when Kirk and Bones thought they were alone.
florahart wrote Diamonds, a Club, and a Couple of Hearts. NC-17. Kirk/McCoy. Sometime between now and 250 years in the future, there is the baseball team Enterprise! Believe me, the gang's all here and then some - there are cameos from trek canons beyond STXI which, if you happen to be familiar with them, will have you giggling (Dax!) and, if you're not, will blend right on into the fic with nary a bump in sight. It a fascinating (and occasionally hilarious) reworking of the movie concept in terms of building up a new team and defeating Nero with plenty of down to the wire (er, or the ninth inning, in this case) action!
gelsey wrote I Am Your Child. PG-13. Winona Kirk, Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Christopher Pike. There’s lots of speculation on whether Winona Kirk was a good or neglectful mother in the Reboot!verse. This is one of the few “Winona had issues and took it out on Jim” fics that offers her a chance at redemption.
graceandfire wrote Space Pirate Jim and Space Pirate Jim Meets the In-Laws. R. Kirk/McCoy. Bones is the sole heir of the galaxy's wealthiest family who is kidnapped on the day of his wedding by *drumroll* space pirates! This is my favorite kind of crack - a hilarious story with good characterizations despite being a certain remove from the originating universe. The sequel is, if possible, even more brilliant than the first!
iman wrote Of Cloudless Climes and Starry Skies. PG-13. Kirk/Spock. (Always-a-Girl!Kirk) I liked this although it's a little hard for me to articulate precisely why. It has to do with Kirk being a girl, and being a girl changes a few things, but it's not something she must rise above - it just is.
*incandescently wrote In Our Bedroom, After the War. PG-13. Kirk/McCoy. An AU set after the first year at the Academy, when McCoy learns that his wife has died leaving behind a baby girl he knew nothing of. He goes back to Georgia to sort things out and Kirk follows him. I love the flow of the whole story, the gentle atmostphere and Jim's awesome five year plan. The OCs, including baby Joanna are lovely and the coda is perfect.

july_july_july wrote It's All in the Delivery. PG-13. Spock/Uhura, Kirk/McCoy. Kirk and Uhura are currently imprisoned by Iskelian raiders, but that's really not the problem at the moment. Both hilarious and in character, it's a delightful fic.

lindmere wrote Angular Momentum. NC-17. Kirk/McCoy. The Enterprise is orbiting an anomaly and time keeps re-setting without their knowledge. Amazing dialogue and wonderful characterizations.
loneraven wrote A Formal Dance in the Bowling Alley. PG. Ensemble. Wonderful insights into the quirks of the Enterprise crew. I wondered a lot of these things myself.
lunabee34 wrote Inextricable. PG. Spock!Prime/Reboot!Jim. In just a short piece, lunabee34 paints a fabulous picture of Spock!Prime's aging, and what effects his mind meld with young!Jim has had. Utterly gorgeous and angsty.
never_walk wrote No Moral High Ground. R. Kirk/Spock. Total, slightly crack-ish, *high school* AU. Believe it or not, it's also really good and a lot of fun.

One of Many Pictures. PG-13. Kirk/McCoy, other men of the Enterprise. Short and funny, it is about one of my favorite plot devises, the for charity – nude calendar.
pervyficgirl wrote And Already It Is As Old As You Are. PG-13. Spock!Prime/T'Pol, with mentions of Trip/T'Pol and Kirk/Spock. It's a pairing that you probably would never expect. But think - T'Pol and Spock!Prime have lived through different timelines and history has altered itself around them. Who better to understand? And the way the author paints T'Pol into young!Spock's history is simply stunning.

A very divergent list of circumstances, most of which reinforce that James T. Kirk actually is a good man. Also, the one time he did - per the title - had me laughing my ass off.

sarkasticfics wrote Twice Shy. NC-17. Kirk/McCoy. There are werewolves in space - what could be more awesome? Actually I probably would never have read this except the author caught me right from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. When they find their mate, werewolves mate for life, and it's just McCoy's luck that his mate has no idea of this fact. The author creates a great AU 'verse here where there is a least one other werewolf aboard the Enterprise, who fortunately befriends Bones. I really love the characterisations here and poor Bones angst really shines through. The sex is hot, hot, hot and the bond between Kirk and McCoy is lovely. Read and enjoy.
selinashideaway wrote A Kind of Magic. PG-13. Kirk/McCoy. This one is a fantastic rendering of Beauty and the Beast via STXI. I love the way the plot of the fairy tale is interwoven into the ST universe, not to mention the nice imagery used to bring it to life. The characterizations are wonderful and an all around good story.

Serendipity1 (ivy_chan) wrote constellation of a woman. PG. Nyota Uhura. I read some complaints about Uhura not being fleshed out enough in the movie. This fic gives what I'd call a nearly complete and believable history.
sh4rds wrote Please Be Gentle. Adult. Sulu, Spock, OMCC, Scotty, McCoy/Chekov, Kirk/Chekov. It takes the 'virgin Chekov' ploy and turns it upside down. The story is sexy, humorous, and clever. It was written for the st_xi_kink meme.
sinverguenza wrote Who Shall Inherit the Earth. R. Kirk/Uhura. This fic broke my heart and put it back together. If you don't believe in K/U after reading it, there's no hope for you. The characterization is just so rich.
skew_whiff wrote Desperate Measures. NC-17. McCoy/Chekhov. A completely humorous take on the obligatory Star Trek sex-pollen-made-us-do-it fic, although it’s a “sex slug.” Go read it—you’ll laugh. More than once.
*sparky77 wrote How to Avoid Kicking Puppies and Other Valuable Lessons in Leadership. R. Ensemble. The Captain has to be the disciplinarian and finds it very difficult - he doesn't want to kick the puppy. The interaction between the crew is awesome and there's some great snark. Also I love the way Kirk solves the problem and his subsequent discussion with Spock. Everyone is so perfect here, it's really funny and I really think it shows just how a young Kirk would handle a situation like this, especially involving his youngest officer. This story is a result of the author "amusing [his/her]self by imagining Kirk attempting to be an authority figure." The story is equal parts comedy, buddy-flick with a dash of action and teen!movie. Yes, teen!movie. And it works wonderfully.

tielan wrote A Future of Friends and Maybes. PG-13. Uhura, Gaila, Spock. Not just because it was written for me, really! It's a look at Uhura's background, her family and clan, her studies, her friendship with Gaila, and tinges of her relationship with Spock. Beautifully written with a very well-fleshed-out backdrop.
tolerik wrote Primum non nocere (First Do No Harm). NC-17. Kirk/McCoy. Their first time together McCoy hurts Kirk, but then he makes up for it in a very sexy way.
waldorph wrote A Beautiful(ly Illogical) Mind. NC-17. Kirk/Spock. An AU with touches of Good Will Hunting, waldorph delivers spot-on characterizations despite the slight shift in timing and circumstance. This is the fic which has spun off into the √π233/hy7 verse, each following fic focusing on a different POV and delivering exceedingly well.
waketosleep wrote Looking for a Place to Happen. NC-17. Kirk/Spock. The Jim Kirk of this dystopian universe, where no Starfleet Academy exists, really has no clue of what he's doing, but he doesn't do so bad at flying by the seat of his pants - much to Spock's occasional horror. There are great characterizations all around, but Uhura was a particular delight for me.

It a fascinating (and occasionally hilarious) reworking of the movie concept in terms of building up a new team and defeating Nero with plenty of down to the wire (er, or the ninth inning, in this case) action!

The author creates a great AU 'verse here where there is a least one other werewolf aboard the Enterprise, who fortunately befriends Bones. I really love the characterisations here and poor Bones angst really shines through. The sex is hot, hot, hot and the bond between Kirk and McCoy is lovely. Everyone is so perfect here, it's really funny and I really think it shows just how a young Kirk would handle a situation like this, especially involving his youngest officer. This story is a result of the author "amusing [his/her]self by imagining Kirk attempting to be an authority figure." The story is equal parts comedy, buddy-flick with a dash of action and teen!movie. Kirk/Spock. The Jim Kirk of this dystopian universe, where no Starfleet Academy exists, really has no clue of what he's doing, but he doesn't do so bad at flying by the seat of his pants - much to Spock's occasional horror. There are great characterizations all around, but Uhura was a particular delight for me.
