Just a prod note about [livejournal.com profile] crack_van's small fandom month in December - sign ups are open.

Fandom overviews are required, but now is a great time to get some of the smaller fandoms on there!

*hints at T:SCC and Burn Notice fans*

Someone has already signed up for Primeval and Hot Fuzz! *squees*

I can't take on anything else, what with the Recathon, but... *prods*

*grins*
The [livejournal.com profile] galpalficathon about women's friendship with other women is getting started!

Go, check it out! And, then, write of course!

I was talking it over with a friend. Why is it that I, as a woman, who primarily is friends with women (though I have excellent male friends as well), am mostly interested in writing men?

Is it a sign that I'm mostly attracted to men? And therefore I fantasize about who I want to be with over who I want to be?

Possibly.

Or is it a sign that there are just few women characters who are written that compellingly in the source material?* I know there are some, no one jump all over me because I'm not saying that there are NO quality women characters, but predominantly... there just aren't. Or there is one per a show, mostly to provide sexual tension for the male protagonist.

More likely.

* With the cavaeat that most of my fandoms are visual and not from books, where there are thousands of well written and compelling women characters.

ETA: Also, and I hope this is clear, I really am only speaking about my own experiences here. I certainly do not mean to imply that women characters in any of the fandoms I play in aren't quality. Many of them are, but I still don't see much fanfic written about them and I'm just wondering why.

Anyway, this ficathon looks like fun and I encourage all of you (yes, even you, hiding in the corner back there) to consider signing up. It looks to be as low stress as it can be.
I thought some of you might be interested in this, but [livejournal.com profile] pellucid and [livejournal.com profile] beanpot are planning to host a Ficathon centered around women's friendships with other women.

Personally, I think this is a brilliant plan!

If you're interested, go and vote in the poll about timing here!
If you are interested in seeing Marvel and/or Iron Man get it's own permanent bus at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, please consider signing up as a potential driver right here.

I'd love to see Marvel get it's own series of reccers, much like the DCU has.

Thanks and that is all.
I totally missed this until today, but I figured I'd pimp it out on my flist.

Live Long and Marry is a fandom charity raising money to combat the anticipated attempt to overturn the legalized marriage of gays and lesbians in California.

There are tons of interesting things offered, and I don't think it's too late to offer a good of your own for purchase.

Consider it! It's a good cause.

I'm debating offering something, but my inner critic is screaming that I shouldn't even think that I could write for money. XD We'll see who wins.
For those people who might be interested, you should go and check out the following two communities:

[livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest which is now open for prompt claims and fic writing!

And [livejournal.com profile] stupidboysfest which is a ficathon celebrating the immaturity of all boys and the stupid (but funny, mostly) things they do. Go and check out the rules and prompts. This one has the potential to produce some truly funny fics!
Hey guys:

There are two communities I wanted to point out, just in case ya'll have interest.

the first is [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest which runs a prompt based fest several times a year for small fandoms. (Betcha you didn't see that coming!) Anyway, they are accepting prompts now, and all of the following fandoms count:

T:SCC - Psych - Burn Notice - BDS - Tin Man - Hex - The Rundown

Plus, you know... others. But I thought some of my flist might find these in particular of interest. Also, the fest DOES accept crossover prompts as long as the crossover is between two small fandoms.

Go and prompt! Check out some of the requests already made and see what, if anything, you want to write.

*************

The second pimp is [livejournal.com profile] fic_on_demand where you can make one request per month and anything goes. Any fandom, any pairing, any prompt. As specific or general as you like!

I point this one out because this community does an insane June challenge whereby you post one fic a day for 30 days. I made it through once in three years, but I will be trying again this year, and it helps if there are prompts there that I am capable of writing. So, if you prompt now, you can prompt again in June! Get two fics written for you that you'd like to see, with luck!

One caveat - for the purposes of this community a fic can be as short as 50 words. So if you want something longer, specify!

I've had some truly amazing fics written for me from this community.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. :)
