Tony Stark was not used to having to try to seduce someone. Usually, his good looks, charm, reputation and money took care of the preliminaries. The problem this time was that the object of his affection had equal amounts of all the same charms. The other problem was that said object of his affection was also glaring at him like he was just slightly better than a criminal.
“Bruce, really… you’re blowing everything out of proportion.”
“You broke into my home,” Bruce growled, looking even more dangerous (and hot) in his tux than he did in his Batsuit.
“Only so I could set up the surprise.” Tony tried his most charming smile and gestured around at the candles and bottle of wine. He’d guessed correctly that Bruce would first visit his office and he’d set up a small table there.
If anything, Bruce only looked angrier. “Why, dare I ask, did you go to the effort of,” his mouth twitched, “… surprising me?”
“Well,” Tony thought about it as he opened the (very expensive) bottle of wine. “Mostly because you wouldn’t answer my phone calls.” He held up a glass of wine for Bruce.
The lord of Wayne Manor ignored the peace offering. Instead, he strode over to the computer panel that controlled the security system. “How did you do this?”
“It was simple,” Tony shrugged and when Bruce looked at him incredulously, he backpedalled. “All right, so simple is probably the wrong word. But when you spend as much time with computer systems as I do…” He trailed off modestly.
“Stark, if you’ve damaged my system…”
Tony shook off the implied threat. “I’ll build you a better one. One even I can’t hack.”
“Excuse me, Master Bruce.” Alfred’s voice interrupted the two billionaires from the doorway. “Would you and your guest like anything?”
“I’m fine, thank you.” Tony answered graciously, with a smile toward Alfred, who was doing his best not to look amused.
“No. My guest was just leaving.”
“Bruce, really.” Tony placed a hand over his chest. “You’re breaking my heart… and it’s not in that good of a condition to begin with.”
Expelling a long suffering sigh, Bruce rubbed his eyes. He couldn’t see anything different in the code that controlled his security system, but if Stark could hack it, others could. Probably. As much as the west coast weapons engineer got under his skin, Bruce didn’t doubt Stark’s intelligence. “You’re going to fix my security system.”
“Yes, of course.” Tony smiled, and threw a wink at Alfred who coughed discreetly. “In the morning.”
“Thank you, Alfred.” Bruce shrugged out of his jacket. “I’m sure Tony can find his own way to a guest room.”
Alfred closed the door even as Tony moved behind Bruce, close enough that he was invading the other man’s space, but not quite touching. “I’d rather find your bedroom.”
“I’ve already told you that I wasn’t interested,” Bruce answered, not turning around.
“I know. But you’re lying.” That made Bruce turn around and his breath caught a bit. He hadn’t realized Tony was that close.
“That’s the line that a date rapist uses.”
Tony snorted. “I couldn’t force you to do anything you didn’t want to do. And, believe me when I say that while I don’t mind a little slap and tickle, force isn’t my style.”
“What makes you think I’m lying?” Bruce demanded, not backing up as Tony leaned even closer.
“Two things,” Stark explained. “One, the look in your eyes when you look at me. I’ve been the object of lust before and I recognize it when I see it.” His eyes twinkled mischeviously.
“And the second?” Bruce was pleased that his voice didn’t sound strangled.
“You haven’t thrown me out on my ass yet.” Tony grinned and despite himself, Bruce smiled slightly.
“And this surprise,” Bruce stressed the word, “is your attempt at seduction?”
“I thought it was pretty good idea.” Tony slid one hand down to rest on Bruce’s hip. “So far it seems to be working.”
“Does it?” Bruce didn’t move away from Tony’s touch and the shorter man pressed even closer, sliding one leg between Bruce’s.
“I’ll let you know in the morning,” Tony promised, just before he reached up and kissed Bruce on the lips.

Date: 2008-06-23 03:08 pm (UTC)The “That’s the line that a date rapist uses.” was my favorite, I wish I had come up with that.
Thank you! I was worried about that line, but it amused me, so I decided to leave it in. I'm glad it amused you too!

Date: 2008-06-23 07:34 pm (UTC)And total icon love here... seriously. *drools*
Tony's charm was his ability to make light of every situation. I couldn't see him being overly serious - even in his attempts at seduction. Even with Bruce... *grins*

Date: 2008-06-24 12:10 am (UTC)I can't see Tony being too serious either. It's just not in him, but Bruce is serious enough for the both of them! ;)
