* I have the best flist! All of the banners I need for the Recathon are being made. See? ROCKING!

* The plan to proceed to the reccing part of the Recathon should come together next week. I hope to have it launched before Turkey Day here in the US. Please, please, if you mentioned that you were able and willing, I'll have banners for snagging and advertising available and I'd apprecaite it if you could do that. This thing will only be as good as everyone else makes it.

* Finally, for those of you who offered to help with organization, I will keep you posted.

Now, a meme, which I stole from [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce:

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes, (d) three things that never happened to that character or (e) three people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.

How about . . . Matsuda?

Matsuda! You get three personal fanon facts.

1. He was seventeen years old before he kissed a girl and he was so nervous about it that he stuttered for the rest of the night.

2. When he was seven, he saw a police officer stop a mugger on the streets. He knew from that day on that he wanted to be a cop.

3. His favorite thing to do on a night off is go to the cinema and eat popcorn. He likes it even more when he can convnice Mogi to go with him.

Michael. (like you didn't know that was coming)

From: [identity profile] ficwize.livejournal.com
Michael, oh Michael. He never fell in love with:

1) Lucy Chen. He thought she was hot, but somewhere between the first time he was told he had a trainee and the time she shot that drug runner about to stab Michael in the middle of nowhere Turkey, he realized that she was a little bit too much like him. The sex was great, but she was just a little too broken.

2) Evelyn. For a while, he thought he could fall in love with her. She made him feel like he was was something more than just hired muscle and tactical planner. When she held onto him and cried, he felt like, just possibly, he could be the man she saw when she looked at him. Of course, it was all a lie and it came crashing down around his feet. It was best, in the long run, that he had never loved her more than just a little bit.

3) Carla. Sometimes, Michael thinks that he could love her in the right circumstances. She's ruthless, cruel, manipulative, dangerous and so very smart. She plays the game, and she plays it well - maybe better than he does. It's addictive, pitting his wits against her, and everytime her voice washes over him through his cell phone, he thinks, "This is almost like love." Of course, he plans to kill her eventually and that scares him. Not because he won't happily end her life, but because it reminds him just a little too much of what his father's idea of love had been and he never ever wants to be like his old man. So he doesn't love her. He just hunts her.

Seriously? This was fun to write!

Hmm, how about something challenging, like Hatori from Fruits Basket?

Hatori - very cool. *dusts off my Furuba memories*

Three things that never happened to Hatori:

1. He never did understand how Momiji's father could abandon his son like that. When he took the boy under his care, he would sometimes hear him crying. He never went in to offer comfort, because Momiji only held himself together out of strength of will and kindness in those moments would undo everything. It almost made Hatori wish he'd never taken an oath to do no harm.

2. He never fully understood Shigure's need to be a manipulative bastard. He loved his friend, would do anything for him, but sometimes he thought the Dog crossed the line. It was his place in the scheme of things to try and leash him in, but Hatori always remembered the wisdom of the saying warning against taking away a dog's toy. He wasn't really afraid of getting bitten as much as he was afraid Shigure, without his 'toys,' would give up and die. Hatori wondered if he would ever be okay with the fact that he repeatedly chose his friend over the innocents hurt in Shigure's games.

3. Hatori never saw New York City. He'd always wanted to, but his condition made travelling difficult, and his family made it impossible. As a boy, he would dream of seeing the Empire State Building and the Statute of Liberty and eating real New York Pizza. He watched the Macy's Day parade every year. But then he became a doctor, and then he became Akito's caretaker, and he knew that he'd never see the Big Apple. And he was okay with it. Mostly.

Shawn Spencer...oh look! Something not Death Note related from me for once. :)

Shawn Spencer! Yay! Psych! Yay!

Three personal canon/fanon facts:

1. Shawn would never admit it to anyone, including Gus, but when he was travelling the world, he missed home. He missed Gus' ridiculous uptightness, he missed the architectue of Santa Barbara, he missed people knowing who he was and caring about him. He even missed the sound of his father's sigh, which usually preceeded a scathing commentary on Shawn's latest failure. But at least someone cared that he had failed then.

2. Shawn's absolute favorite food was waffles. It was the breakfast his mother made every Saturday. It took him years to make the connection and he stopped eating them.

3. Shawn's favorite movie was Casablanca. He was hooked the first time he ever heard Captain Renault say, "You enjoy war. I enjoy women." It became a recurrent theme in his fights with his father. He never did live down the fact that he got almost teary at the end and Gus still never misses the chance to promise him that theirs "is a beautiful friendship."

Bobby Drake

Date: 2008-12-01 02:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ficwize.livejournal.com
(c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes

Bobby Drake never wanted to be anything other than a regular high school boy. I mean, okay, he wanted to be that boy that lost his virginity with the head cheerleader on Prom night, but other than that, he just wanted to blend in.

When he froze his bathtub into a solid block of ice, he saw everything he wanted lost. But then he met people who were like him, and yeah, they wanted more than he did - they wanted to be special and he still just wanted to fit in.

He still didn't think he was special - he wasn't smart like Hank, or all Leader Boy like Scott. He wasn't rich like Warren and he wasn't hot like Jean.

He was just Bobby. But gradually, he began to think that was enough.

Characters:
L
Light
...Ryuk, just because

...obsessive, wut? Nooooo.

(Hmmm, a bit adult in places.)

Date: 2008-12-01 02:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ficwize.livejournal.com
(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon

1. L used to think that having parents would be amazing. But then he saw what Yagami-kun's family did to him and he was glad he was an orphen.

2. L wondered how Yagami-san could be so blind to his son's faults, until the first time Light smiled at him and really meant it. Then he wondered how he could be such a fool, but he couldn't change it.

3. L was afraid that dying would hurt. He didn't believe in life after death, and he wasn't afraid of not existing anymore. He was just afraid it would hurt. When the time came, he learned that he was right.

**********

1. When he was little, Light wanted to be a boat captain. He loved looking at the pictures of the boats and imagining them crossing the ocean. He was six the first time he heard his parents talking about him being a police office like his father. He threw away his favorite sailboat book the next day.

2. When he was in the third grade, Light got into a fight with one of the other kids in school. He came home with a black eye and a bloody lip. He told his dad that he was trying to protect one of the other kids and his father was proud of him. He never forgot that.

3. Light didn't like alcohol. It made him feel out of control and he never liked to be out of control. The night after L's funeral, he drank an enough sake to drown out the apologies from the rest of the team, the memory of L's eyes as the light went out of them, and the sound of Ryuk's laughter. No one ever said anything to him about it.

*****************

1. Ryuk was a little afraid of Yagami Light. He'd never expected a human to be so good at dealing death. It reminded him that although helpless in many instances, humans were a truly terrifying species.

2. Ryuk knew the moment Light and L made eye contact that the game was just beginning. He wondered if the two boys really had any idea of what they were getting themselves into.

3. Sex was not something Ryuk really understood. He knew that it led to propagation of a species, but the way that L and Light engaged in it spoke more about war and domination and violence than love and the future. It intrigued him more than he would ever be able to express, but he was glad that he had the chance to observe.

Fiona! Feeee!

Date: 2008-12-01 02:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ficwize.livejournal.com
(d) three things that never happened to that character

1. Fiona wanted a white wedding in a church, with lots of bridesmaids and flowers, and a four tier cake. Then she blew up a building and shot some traitors. By the time she met Michael, she just wanted cake.

2. In the back of her mind, Fiona imagined what her and Michael's child would look like. They would have Michael's eyes, and her smile, and would probably cause so many problems that they'd have a price on their head by the age of two. Most days she was grateful that she wouldn't really ever find out. Most days.

3. Fiona hoped she would die in her sleep when she was an old old woman. She wanted to have on a white nightgown and her long gray hair twisted into a bun. With any real luck, she'd have little glasses, too, that she could constantly look for when she'd forgotten where she'd put them. Of course, Fiona knew this was unlikely. Anyone who spent as much time with C-4 as she did was unlikely to ever get a peaceful death.

Yes! It's so true!

She wanted to have on a white nightgown and her long gray hair twisted into a bun

OMG, she'd be such a bad ass granny, though. I'd stay the hell off her lawn, probably because it's full of landmines, and Michael has to come around and mow it with some kind of radar-thing he built out of denture cream q-tips he stole from other people's rooms at the nursing home.

This is so adorable! Thank you! (How are you going for banners? Do you need any more?)

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was kind of fun to contemplate old granny Fi. *grins*

Banners are good! The Recathon is set up. Now, I just need help pimping it, because I'm equally nervous it'll be a total flop or that it'll be overrun with more fics than I can manage.

I'd rather have the latter problem, though...

Tony Stark! =D

From: [identity profile] ficwize.livejournal.com
Movieverse, of course. :)

(e) three people that character never fell in love with and why

1. Tony Stark never fell in love with James Rhodey. He always kind of thought Rhodey was hot, and there was a time he would have gladly played a rousing game of Soldier Boy, but somewhere along the way Tony realized that Rhodey was his friend. He loved him, but he wasn't in love with him.

2. Pepper Potts was everything that Tony knew he should want in a woman. She was smart, driven, talented, and hot. Tony knew he could be in love with her, if he let it happen. But somewhere along the way, Tony realized that he shouldn't fall in love with Pepper. She was too good for him.

3. Tony didn't get starstruck by many people. He'd met presidents and movie stars. Hell, he'd slept with presidents and movie stars plenty of times (and no, he wasn't giving names - the Secret Service were scary, but the paparazzi were terrifying). But, when he met Steve Rogers, Tony knew he was in trouble. His only hope was that Captain America wouldn't fall in love with him.
