"Be reasonable." Fiona blocked the door.

"Move, Fi." Michael's jaw clenched so hard that he gave himself a headache. "I can't leave kids at the mercy of a father like that."

"You always do this, Michael. Some woman tells you a sob story and you rush to play white knight."

Michael shoved Fiona, only slightly surprised to end up on the floor with her straddling him. The surprise came when she leaned down and wrapped her arms around him.

"You can't save everyone, Michael. You can't even save yourself."

Michael closed his eyes to keep her from seeing his tears.

"I'm bored." The declaration made Michael's blood run cold and he lowered the arm weights. Turning slowly, he watched Fiona slump on the bed. "Let's do something."

"What did you have in mind?"

Her gaze turned mischievous. "Well… there are gun runners getting too close." She untangled her impossibly long legs and crossed the room to straddle his lap. "Or we could think of something… closer to home."

"And less violent?" Michael wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Maybe." Fiona teased. "And maybe not."

She tangled her arms around his neck, laughing when he carried her back to the bed.

The community stagesoflove is kicking off another round. Basically, sign up for a set of themes and pick your favorite OTP and hit the road running. You have five weeks to finish all five themes - one a week.

BUT, each piece can be as short as you'd like (at least 100 words). So, it's not high pressure at all (well, barely high pressure). Regardless, it's a lot of fun.
