The world seems filled with so much fail lately. My flist is filled with hurts, fears and frustrations. Real life is taking its toll.

So, flist, I have a little challenge for you.

Drop a comment and share something that is positive and filled with love. This is not a meme to share how much you love other people (although, certainly allowed!) as much as it is to show love for things that inspire you to believe that eventually, the whole human race has a shot at getting it right.

1. Name a character or pairing from a fandom I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a song lyric (or possibly a line of poetry) that I think fits. (I'm not really a poetry person.)



2. Name one or more characters from any of my fandoms, and I'll tell you every pairing I've ever written them in, read them in, or even just thought about.

* I have the best flist! All of the banners I need for the Recathon are being made. See? ROCKING!

* The plan to proceed to the reccing part of the Recathon should come together next week. I hope to have it launched before Turkey Day here in the US. Please, please, if you mentioned that you were able and willing, I'll have banners for snagging and advertising available and I'd apprecaite it if you could do that. This thing will only be as good as everyone else makes it.

* Finally, for those of you who offered to help with organization, I will keep you posted.

Now, a meme, which I stole from likeadeuce:

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes, (d) three things that never happened to that character or (e) three people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.

Post the first line from your 25 most recent fanfics and try to find a pattern.

( First Lines )

This was interesting. I didn't count drabbles or comment fics for the 25, nor did I count fics that are complete and not yet posted, as those are all subject to changes until they are finally put up for public consumption.

I think the most obvious thing I do is start with somehow indicating the character the fic is going to be about. Almost all of the first lines have a name in them.

I only started with dialogue twice, and even one of the dialogue quotes has a name in it.

In fact 22/25 first lines has a name in it. *fascinated*

Also, only 1/25 is in first person. 4/25 are from a female character's POV and one of the others is an observation on a woman from a man's POV.

The other most noticeable thing I do is give a setting. 11/25 first lines provide some form of setting, whether it be a city, a room, or a state (dreams).

I also tend to introduce the main conflict of the fic immediately. I'd say about 40-50% of the fics name the main problem immediately.
