Title: The Justice League Of Cardiff Is A Stupid Name
Fandom: Torchwood/Justice League
Characters: Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Clark Kent (Superman), Bruce Wayne (Batman)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
Author Website: Fic
Why this must be read:

The author's summary pretty much sums this up. Superman is evil and Batman wants to know why Torchwood's agents don't wear capes.

It is crack of the finest variety.

Excerpt: "He's an alien," Jack Harkness said, standing in front of the clear plexi wall of the Torchwood incarceration cell. "He's the last of his kind. So they say, anyway. His planet was destroyed in a cataclysm, and he was the only one spared."

"We seem to have a lot of those," Ianto volunteered, arms crossed, also regarding the alien. "He looks human. Weird, but human."

"Easy to say when he's not destroying any major city centres," Jack said. The man on the narrow bunk stirred briefly, then settled back into slumber. A small green stone set into the restraint collar around his neck winked gently in the dim light.

"You see news stories about him sometimes," Ianto continued, drawing closer. "The Man of Steel. Reckon if they didn't have them they'd need Torchwood, what with all the mischief Metropolis seems to fall into."

"Point taken," Jack said, and it was: Ianto was subtly reminding him that with Superman in a cell in Torchwood's underground lair, Metropolis was more or less laid bare for the taking. Oh, there were a handful of others who could help, but Superman was out. And Batman was apparently missing from Gotham, which may or may not have been coincidence; given Superman had attacked Gotham, who knew if Batman was even alive.

A few notes:

1. Some of the links may lead to off LJ sites.
2. Each reader is responsible for double checking warnings on the story itself. It is not my job, nor the job of anyone else, to make sure you’re aware of the contents of the story.
3. I encourage you all to leave feedback for the authors! Feed the authors and they will continue to feed us.
4. This would not have happened if it were not for the generous help of many, many people. In particular, I would like to thank [livejournal.com profile] diabel_gt for making the lovely banner above and [livejournal.com profile] roguecatwoman for coding the recs list. You are both super stars!
5. Lastly, feel free to squee in the comments if you’re so inclined.

On a personal note, thank you to the people who recced my fics! It means a lot. I’m very flattered.

And now for the recs!

Good Omens/Supernatural: [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis wrote A Backdoor to Hell . PG. It's not the strangest request Aziraphale's heard, but it surprises him nonetheless. (Comment: This one was fun and even has footnotes!)

Supernatural/DCU: [livejournal.com profile] dotfic wrote Then You'd Better Not Stay. PG-13. Dean Winchester/Wonder Woman. He's a hunter. She's an Amazon princess. Together, they slay dragons! (Comment: Awesome fic, awesome premise, awesome pairing. What's not to love here?)

Supernatural/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: [livejournal.com profile] chaletian wrote Judgement Day. Gen. Dean and Sam didn't expect the apocalypse. (Comment: Short, sweet and to the point, this fusion is fantastic!)

Harry Potter/X-men Movierverse: [livejournal.com profile] penknife wrote Stutter. Gen, Lily & Sirius, Charles/Erik (implied). It's a rough flight. (Comment: I love this fic more than I can coherently put into words, more for what isn't said than for what is. It's a brilliant crossover that puts these two worlds together in a way that will leave you wishing for more.)

Harry Potter/Doctor Who: [livejournal.com profile] fly_to_dawn wrote Redheads and Dragon’s Eggs. PG. Now that’s a real mystery,’ she said, ‘it must have been four or five years ago - a stranger left it to my mum, as a gift for me to keep. (Comment: Donna! Charlie! Dragons! Win!)

Bandom (My Chemical Romance and Cobra Starship)/Shaun of the Dead: [livejournal.com profile] akire_yta wrote With Just A Touch of My Burning Hand. G. This is sort of an obscure cross-over with the film 'Shaun of the Dead,' and is based off a passing comment in one of the closing scenes. Multimedia. (Comment: Just go and check this out. It's too funny to miss!)

Primeval/Jurassic Park III: [livejournal.com profile] cordeliadelayne wrote Visitors. PG. When a T.Rex goes on a rampage in the ARC, who better to help, than two people who have survived a dinosaur infested island? (Comment: This fic has dinosaurs. And it's also made of awesome. Go and see for yourself!)

RECS: DCU

Well, enough people picked this that I'm going to go ahead and make a post. I may make another post this week, though, so if you want one of the others to win, keep voting!

Able to Succeed by Brown Betty. This was recced on crackvan and links to an off LJ site, which I rarely ever do, but it is so worth it. I'm going to quote the LJ rec, but I will add that this is THE story that got me interested in DC fandom. "This story is a classic in the fandom for its sheer brilliance and how much it says about Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake, as well as what it says about Batman and Robin. It's chilling, in fact. There's not too much I can say without ruining the story for you, but this a story you will remember. In fact, I would argue that any fan of Batman and Robin should read this."

The Beginnings of All Things Are Small by [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot. A Batman Begins-verse story from Yuletide that is just amazing. This story makes me understand how a responsible adult can actually agree to train a child to be his sidekick.

Brought to You by the Letter P by [livejournal.com profile] crackformary. Even Batman, in all his experience, runs across the occassional unexpected problem. I don't want to spoil this, so let's just say that Bruce still has a lot to learn about some things. And this Robin is ready to give him a crash course. *grins*

The Real Green Lantern by [livejournal.com profile] duskdog717. This is too short to give much of a synopsis. I'll just say that I don't read the comic and I found it funny.

The Year of Living by [livejournal.com profile] mtgat. Static Shock/Batman: TAS. This story was also recced on crackvan and I'm going to quote the reccer: "Because this fic is awesome. It takes something we learn about in Batman Beyond (a cartoon set 50 years after Batman: the Animated Series) and extrapolates it back to what must have happened during/after B:tAS. It's well written, the characters are well-rounded people, and it deals with the aftermath of trauma in a realistic way. It fills the gap perfectly. It is a crossover with the cartoon Static Shock, but you don't have to know anything more about that series than that Virgil and Richie are teen superheroes. In the Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, we find out that years ago Joker had captured Tim Drake, tortured and brainwashed him, and had him in his clutches for several weeks. After his rescue, it took him a year to regain his sanity, at which point Batman told him he could never be Robin again, and Tim left, full of bitterness. This story is about what happened to him afterwards, trying to deal with what happened to him and regain his life."

Also, fair warning, I cried.

All right! There you are! DCU recs. I'm sure there will be more, as I keep finding all these talented authors. Please let them know if you read and enjoy and let me know, too, so I can keep an eye out for things that are crowd pleasing. :)
I've been planning to do this anyway, but [livejournal.com profile] strangevisitor7 asked and I have to keep her happy if I can! Here you go, hon!

I Hate Everything About You by [livejournal.com profile] fangirl_lizzie. NC-17. Iron Man/Batman crossover that turns into very nicely done Tony/Bruce. I really enjoyed this one and thought the progress of the relationship was nicely done.

Five Collisions of the Tony Stark Kind by [livejournal.com profile] charlie_d_blue. PG-13. Gen. Five drabbles crossing Tony Stark into the universes of Supernatural, Stargate SG1, Doctor Who, Stargate: Atlantis and House, M.D. I have so much love for this fic, particularly the Dr. Who section, which has haunted me ever since I read it. Fantastic, amazing job here.

The Good Stuff by [livejournal.com profile] trixie_chick. PG-13. Pepper and Rhodey commiserate over Tony's liquor. Yes, this was written for me. No, I'm not reccing it solely for that reason. This is amazing and fun and reminds me again of all the reasons that Pepper Potts is made of win.

Five Rumors About Tony Stark That Aren’t (Entirely) True by [livejournal.com profile] mclittlebitch. PG. Past Tony Stark/Emma Frost; suggested Tony/Pepper, Tony/Rhodey, Tony/Bruce Wayne, Tony/robot. Seriously? This fic is hysterically funny! I can't recommend it highly enough. These headlines are too real to be fabricated... *shifty eyes*

Hee. Enjoy!
I Have No Daughter

Fandom: Harry Potter
Author: [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain
Summary: Hermione's mother is furious about the measures her daughter took to ensure her parents' safety during the war.
Warnings: DH SPOILERS!!!!

This story was wonderful. It addressed one of the few things I really found dissatisfactory about Deathly Hallows in a believable way that didn't demonize Hermione for making a decision that many of us probably would have made.

Wonderfully written, this story should be read and bookmarked!

Correspondence

Fandom: DCU
Author: [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz
Summary: Lois exchanges letters with Superboy in the midst of the Infinity Crisis.
Warnings: Spoilers for the Infinity Crisis arc

I keep up in passing with this comic series, but I'm not an avid reader. Still, I'm so glad that I opened this fic. It is beautifully written, wonderfully intimate and emotional, and lets us see into the mind of a woman, Lois Lane (don't run away!!!) in a way that makes her human.

It also shows the wonders of a relationship built not on passion or family, but on friendship and trust. This is a beautiful read.

Obviously, stories have begun to be posted at [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon. I will keep reccing my favorites here as I read them. I keep meaning to make rec posts, but I always forget. Hopefully, I'm turning over a new leaf. :)
